For what its worth i think Martin is doing ok, i am simply voicing concerns for the remainder of the season. Our squad is painfully weak and if we get to christmas around 15th place then i'll sleep a little easier.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

blimey, i know i've been outta town for a while, but what's going on ?? from what i've read, we've not been too clever on the pitch, but what's with all the negativity towards ling and the players all of a sudden ?? Ling's no good, certain elements of our support baying for the blood of Robbo, Atieno is cr@p, Howe is an overweight slugger.........................bloody hell, how long have i been away ?!??!

having not been to a match for some time, i can't comment on the performances, but is it really that bad ?? only my opinion, but there are a lot of good teams in this division this year, and a handful of terrible ones, and from what i can tell, we are in neither category at the moment, which is pretty much where most of us were expecting to be going into the season, was it not ?

the club needs some stability, so i suggest we stick together, get behind ling and the players, and get through this season as best we can. that's not meant to sound negative or dismissive, just realistic.

one of the things i love about following TUFC, is the way we always get behind the team, give our support, no matter what. let's not forget that.

Its a good job you weren't at Bradford on saturday Brady because it was the worst i have EVER seen them play in 6 years. They had 10 men for 65 minutes yet scored first because laurel and hardy ballsed up again and they were on top and dominant. We didn't have any shots or any pressure. We couldn't hardly get out of our own half we were so negative and clueless. I may be over-reacting to the performance but by all accounts it was like that at Shrewsbury. Many individuals didn't deserve my support on saturday. Olejnik, Mansell, Stevens,O'Kane, Nico and perhaps Lathrope but the rest were abysmal.

This thread crosses over nicely with the "we have been found out thread"I am now going to have to put my head against a brick wall and bash it , bash it bloody hard aswell, firstly i have to say, i really have got nothing against this thread, its important that all views are heard , i do try to take on board what every one says, and respect there opinion.

However why can not we as a fans group some times see what is straing us right in the face, i think we need to wake up and smell some roses here, i tried to put a message across in a politle and joking manner on the other thread , as i personaly prefer not to put people's backs up, this is 100% about "money"We can drip on all we like about loan signings to bolster the squad, we as fans can look at Mcphee, Atieno and why did Ling offer Stevens a new contract, who else was Ling going sign with the player budget he is working with come on, yep i can see it now, Lingy will be off to Newton market with a cow, and with a bit of luck he will be back with some magic beans.

I think it is relevant looking at some of the bigger clubs in our league, as i know fact , there are clubs in league 2 offering up to and some over £2000 a week in wages to players, our club can not compete with that, so where are these better players going to come from, thats why it is becoming more vital than ever that our club starts to grow its own talent, and look along the lines of scouting young rough diamonds like Ross Hannah and Jamie Vardy, players can could develop and possibly sold on with huge profits .

Martin Ling has to do the best job he can with the budget he is working from, he came out and said our budget is somewhere in the middle 8, which by my reckoning is 8th-16th, our team is sat 14th in league closer to the play-offs points wise than relegation, so the evidence is pretty clear , the team is on track to achieve its target for the season.

This season was allways going to be about getting to the 50 point mark as quick as possible, anyone who failed to see that is a fool, once the grandsatnd is built and paid for , the infrastructure of th club will be complete, then hopefully the club can divert more funds intot he team, then we will see excatly the type of player Martin Ling really does wnat to bring to Torquay United.

I did see the goal from the bradford game, and I must admit I did think it was a bit of a keystone cops moment at the back, and it sounds as if that was typical of our recent play. Just seems a lot of negativity has crept in during the few weeks I've not been around, and that's not normal of our support. I've been reading through all the posts I'd missed, and thought I was in the wrong place! Hopefully things will pick up soon.

surely a non-league west country based player with a proven goal scoring record would be preferable to atieno. give someone a chance who really, really, really wants it as opposed to someone who is indifferent,

Neither Ling or Torquay have been found out. Our start was ridiculously good for the team/squad we actually have. Where we are now is a more realistic position for our resources and squad quality. We don't have enough quality up front around Howe and since BRanston has gone our defense isn't remotely as good as Saah isn't in the same league as Branno.

As that side managed 7th I think around 15th with those 2 areas significantly weaker than they were this time last year is about right for us. With the changes going on behind the scenes everyone talked about a consolidation season well this is it. Midtable.

We are Torquay United. What is happening this season is what has been happening for most seasons since I started supporting them (1985). If you don't like it support another club. We have the best results in Devon by the way.

Fact. Devon is notoriously rubbish for football and it still is this season, Ever since i've supported Torquay we've invariably been absolute cack finishing bottom of this league twice and narrowly escaping relegation for a number of years that's the norm. Granted I've seen a couple of seasons of challenging towards the top of this league as well as BSP but this is our level in terms of resource and history. Mid to lower League 2. Nothing to be ashamed of and we have more than enough about us to be finish somewhere between 10th-16th and that'll do this season.

Before shouting down all these people who are worried ..of the 12 games how many did we play poorly...even the non deserved 1-0 win over Aldershot...think we played 11 like s*** and 1 good....

I hope and pray we "stabilise" at mid table but until we get some real performances can see us slipping to 20th by christmas......

The thread about Buckle on the Rovers board is hilarious. Ling seems alot more straight forward than Buckle but is he any good as a manager? - got my doubts myself.
Can't really judge the team as I havn't seen a game all season and won't do as long as we parade the terminally shite team that we do week in week out.
No suprise really that we are hurling down the table headlong. Lets be honest if you play non league crap players every week then what do you expect?
Perhaps more indicative is the 9-1 shellacking by Cheltenham in the reserve game.
You would be forgiven for thinking that we played the under 14's but jesus this was our first team back up. Rice (say no more). Leadbitter (waste of space) Rowe-Turner (useless) Ellis (presumably has given up) Macklin ( a complete waste of a shirt). need I go on.
And then theres the first team - Stevens (should be non league) Mcphee (Shouldn't even be non league) Atieno (more clubs than you'll find in a golf bag - they can't all be wrong). Saah (awful).
Is it really any wonder we are not playing well?

Utter crap Brucie. Mcphee shouldn' be non league? shows you know very little as Mcphee has been a good goal scorer in the BSP.

I do agree though that the reserve result is a worry.

ah, what a surprise, just as a few dark clouds are gathering, brucie makes a spirited return. i for one usually enjoy your posts, Brucie, regardless of accuracy, i do tend to smile after reading them, for their harshness, and the fact they usually seem to be made to create a reaction.

however, this latest effort is pretty nonsensical.

i too have not managed to get to a game since the win at Rovers, and having been away for a bit, returned to see a few negative posts, from disappointed fans.

BUT, for you to criticise our players etc when you haven't even seen one of them kick a ball is just laughable. you're not going to grace us with your presence while the team is playing badly ?? whatever you do, don't tell the players or anyone else at the club - they'll be devastated.

IF you are a fan, and this really is your club of choice, try supporting it for once instead of criticising everything they do.

Some fair points Brady but i consider myself a fan who will go to games even if we are bottom and shite. Even i cannot sit back and loudly the applaud the team for not making much effort as was the case on saturday. Yes if we are getting gubbed each week but straining every sinue to rectify things then fair enough. It was the manner of the defeats by Shrewsbury and Bradford, and the ease at which we let them play which is annoying. Like i said if we had bombarded their goal and still gone down 1-0 then we'll take it on the chin and move on. Saturday was inexcusbale and i believe some of the players have said as much which is encouraging at least. The performance isn't going to stop me from going to the other games however i have a right as a fan to voice my displeasure at such an abject showing and to express my concerns about the way the club is going. The players will get my support and encouragement even if we are losing - so long as they are making an effort.

it certainly sounds like we've not been much cop recently, and if that's the case, tell it how it is. but i'd rather be told by someone who was actually there (such as your good self), than someone sat at home moaning and complaining, just because they can. i'm like you, i'd never say "i'm not going to support my team" because they're not playing well.
