Quite a few pop-siders and loads of family-standers in the Bench last night.
Its going to be hard to fill the Family stand now and if a good few pop-siders decide to stay in the Bench its going to be hard to get a decent atmosphere from the home "end".
Also think that the casual fans that turn up for derbies,at christmas etc, will also go the the Bench.rather than pop-side,and we need pop-side to be full/nearly full for a really good atmosphere.
The new stand has changed the dynamic at the ground-though we may need to wait until Plymouth match to see by how much.

Indeed. Can see why though, the Bench is excellent. Get a block of that singing and I'd have though it'd be a good atmosphere.

Cant disagree with what you say forever. I understand that about them not wanting to start off the chants etc. But unless someone talks to them at the ground/in the pub beforehand or something things arent going to change because they dont read this forum. They are all young lads growing up with varying degrees of maturity but they are still young. And its a social thing aswell so having a laugh is part of it. And due to the amount of people there its probably shouted louder than if it was a smaller group doing it.forevertufc wrote: Agreed Alex, I wouldn't want to turn this into a witch hunt against the group of young lads, I dont really know many of them well, have spoke to a few of them in passing and they are a good bunch who take a lot of stick unfairly, they are very loyal aswell.
The problem with what your saying about more of the mature fans starting chants is, in walks of life there are leaders and followers, and the more mature fan is more likey to follow rather than lead, the singers group to me have to be like a good DJ who can reconise the crowd they are playing to, and play music to suit.
Away from home you get the more hardcore support who join in with lots of different chants, at home as said its different, I agree with united09 singing yellow army all the time is mind numbing, however it works at Plainmoor stick to things like that adapt it maybe and people will join in.

Yaaaaay, "young people" abdicating responsibility again.
How about, singers, rather than asking "old people" who know songs, but are uncomfortable starting them, to start them anyway, you ask them to teach you the chants, then you can sing them when you want?
Equally, those of us who think supporting our team is more important than chanting meaningless bollocks about the opposition, are not there to be your guiding light. You've been told more than enough that songs about players being rapists, referees being **** and all the other total shit that we're had recently is not helping the boys on the pitch, or improving the atmosphere.
It's all well and good having a laugh with oppo fans before the match, or at odd times throughout. The same goes for players. When geezer turns up with long hair, one rendition of 'Where's your caravan' is funny, two is faintly amusing and anything beyond three makes me want to start self harming.
Think back to the best atmosphere you can remember. For me, it's a toss up between Shrews away in the playoff semi 2nd leg and the Stevenage away game our 2nd Conference year.
On both those occasions, we sang, non stop. At Stevenage, it was Yellow Army. At Shrews, it was the St Pauli song.
More of that guys and we'll be laughing.

I'd like to see more of the humour that makes the best terrace chants. Doesn't have to be something that gets repeated ad nauseum (as Matt said), but some of the best ones apply to that game, and might only get used once. (I like the "You've got Di Canio, we've got your stereo" one from Liverpool fans a few years back)

On that note, belated kudos to Leicester fans for the utterly brilliant:
I wanna stay here,
I wanna stay here,
Leicester's a shit hole,
I wanna stay here.

I much prefer the away matches when it comes to creating an atmosphere. Aldershot, AFC Wimbledon, Creepy, Argyle all away just a few games where we made one hell of a noise.
As much as I love watching TUFC from the pop, I'd much rather travel away when it comes to atmosphere.

been watching the gulls since i was 5, have done the mini stand bit and now take my place on the pop side each week where i shout myself silly and try to get people to sing along , sometimes i get strange looks and sometimes they join in, if only people would realise that the players react to the support when its loud, i went on the bench lastnight to sample the stand and tried to start them off there but all to no avail, im 53 now and hope that i will still be singing in 20 years time, I WAS BORN UNDER THE MINI STAND THE MINI, MINI STAND!!!!!
I agree that the Konchesky thing got boring, but those lads get more than their fair share of abuse, as half the time, theyre the only people that actually chant anything. If you don't like their chants, then start your own! Im sure they'd join in, and otherwise we'd all be stood there in silence.
Also where was Barlow? when we haven't got a drummer then any chant doesn't spread further than a block or so. We need the drum there every week if we have any chance of a good atmosphere (that the whole ground can hear).

And this, right here, is exactly what is the problem with **** ing kids these days! Rather than this attitude, where we all act like twats, how about those who presently act like twats just **** ing stop it?brooker wrote:I agree that the Konchesky thing got boring, but those lads get more than their fair share of abuse, as half the time, theyre the only people that actually chant anything. Thats a bit harsh. There not that bad. Seeing as it was a pointless game, that we got d1cked in, doesnt help. Hopefully a better atmosphere next Tuesday!

Just find all of this funny tbh, I wasn't there against Leicester but when I do go its either up end by away fans or in the middle and I have to agree and few others of the group do some of the shit that comes out of people mouths in the middle is amazing, that's why we originally moved down the end where the rest of the ground didn't hear us but down there 100-300 people joined in with every song even if it weren't loud we sang for much longer than the middle.
As for the older style chants why don't the people who want to start them come stand in the middle in the block below
Us and start them we'd join in for sure, and how about putting the songs down on the yellow army section so at least we know the words when you start singing them,
Only a thought but there you go

its a good idea callum, i do sometimes come down the away end when we are kicking that way and alwways join in even though im getting on in years, also the lads that sing need to come down to the corner when we kick towards the family stand as this would generate a great atmosphere and the players would respond to that, last season they always stayed at the away end even when we kicked toward the family stand and i tried to tell them that we could not hear them from our end so they would be more use if they went to whichever end the team were kicking towards. we need to make plainmoor a fortress just like aldershot and stevenage fans do, need to get everyone to join in.
