That Blackpool game is one of the best Gulls games I've ever been to, and was the game that turned Eifion into a hero of mine.

Only thing is, I thought Brett Ormerod got their goals and not Tudor. Don't remember a streaker either. But if memory serves me correctly a certain Habib Sissoko got our first goal. Now he was hopeless.

Poke limped off after quarter of an hour and we didn't have Ricey on the bench, so Tim Sills (a centre forward) went in net. [/b]Late in the first half, stupidly, we gave away a penalty. With a combination of sheer bravado and a degree of arm waiving, Tim managed to make the taker roll his shot tamely wide of the post.

Second half starts and finally Forest Green stick one in. Torquay decline to allow this to phase them and somehow find an equaliser though Benyon.

The game wears on and the last of 3 added minutes begins and the disgruntled home support begin to fIle for the exits (doubtless disappointed at a meagre return of just one point in the circumstances), Sillsy punts a goal kick up field. A cheeky flick on finds Matt Green, the enigmatic striker is 25 yards out and has his back to goal. Unphased, he turns his man expertly and rifles a shot into the top corner, much to the disgruntlment of the rapidly dissipating support.

I went f**k ing nuts in the bar at my then home.

Not really amazing I.M.O. as sooner or later Buckle would have selected him to start in goal, with Benyon full back & Ricey up front ! ^.^ ;-) ;-)

Well I may be wrong on the scorer, but how the heck can you forget a streaker?!!

Sissoko was a player like looked like he could be good, if only he could be arsed - bit like Constantine.'Languid,' some call it.'Lazy git' is my version.

Anyone remember Khalid Chalqi?

Chalqi was a decent player, dont know why we didnt keep him. I saw Sissoko in a friendly v Dorchester and thought "hello, we've found a diamond here" only for him to be rubbish before getting sacked for hitting someone at Home Park (Thats how I remember events, can anyone confirm this?)

Easter Monday - 2000.

Pouring with rain (and I mean pouring) - Plainmoor was a mudbath.
We were playing Macclesfield and went down to an early goal in or around the 10th minute before Tony Bedeau equalised. A minute later and Maccy had the ball in the back of the net once more. It really did feel like it was going to be one of those days. Lots of huffing and puffing, but not much joy in front of goal. I remember that we had Hill, Chrissy Brandon (remember him?!) and Brian Healy (remember him?!) in midfield and indeed it was Healy who got the equaliser for us 10 minutes before time by way of a penalty.
I was happy with a point at that time - money fairly well spent (I had got the train from London that day as I was studying in Kent for a few months) and, had been a fairly entertaining game.
Cue super sub Eifion Williams who, in the last minute, in the middle of a goalmouth scramble, in the pissing rain, in the mudbath that was the six yard box, stuck out a right foot and ensured the ball ever so slowly (painfully slow in fact) trickled over the goal line.
Cue delirium in the Popside, family stand and grandstand as well as on the pitch. Nobody cared that it was the sloppiest of finishes ever. Nobody cared that we had left it so late.

We had won.

One for me that will always stick in the mind was a comeback of sorts, after we had been the subject of a monumental comeback from the opposition.

Histon away, first year in the BSP. A tuesday night in September, kick off delayed due to traffic carnage on the A14.

We started brightly and dominated the first half. Goals from Sills, Phillips (I think) and Darren Mullings put us 3-0 up. But Histon were kicking lumps out of us - this was before they got known for it - and by half time we'd lost both Phillips and Chris Robertson to injury.

Second half they pull two goals back in quick succession to make it 3-2. Then Benyon is tripped in the box, Zebs puts the penalty away to make it 4-2. Then Mullings gets sent off and we're down to 10 men.

On 82nd and 88th minutes, Histon get two suspect penalties which are both converted and its 4-4. Down and out, the gulls make one last foray forward which is cynically ended by the Histon centre half. They get reduced to 10 men, and we have one last opportunity to snatch it. Nico rolls the free-kick wide to Bedeau, who takes a touch and crosses it into the packed Histon box. It was an awful cross, which missed everyone apart from Chris Todd at the back post. He takes a first touch further than I can kick a ball, swivels like an oil tanker and punts it with everything he's got. From the away end at Histon its impossible to see the goal-line, so the next thing I know is I see the back of the net ripple and a couple of hundred Gulls fans (and 10men on the pitch) go bezerk.

It was one of the most breathless, bizarre games of football I've ever seen and I think for the 10 battered and bruised lads in yellow to pick themselves up from blowing a 3-0 lead to score a last minute 5-4 win is worthy of a mention

Because I was only 10 at the time!

Chalqi was certainly the best of those French imports, and played the most games.

I had a tour of the dressing rooms before that game and somewhere I've still got a picture of me and Jules Mendy...the third member of the Sissoko/Chalqi/Mendy holy trinity!

I must say I am surprised that nobody has mentioned the biggest comeback ever witnessed at Plainmoor.

Torquay v Exeter in the conference playoff semi-final. :Z

Now, I know we were on the wrong end of it, but considering the importance of the game and who it was against, it doesn't get any bigger does it?

GulldenBoy wrote:Last nights amazing come back brought back to me the game that made me from a casual young fan into a die hard.

It was back in the early part of the 93-94 season and Don Riordan was manager. We played Colchester and were 3-0 down by half time (i think) and on came Adrian "fozzy" Foster as a second half sub and promptly scored a hat-trick to come back to 3-3. I still remember him being booked for running down by the Pop Side whirling his shirt over his head. Fozzy would always be my first Torquay hero.

There have been many great ones, such as Hull away. Would love to hear other peoples stories?
I think we were two down at half time and they scored quite early in second half and thought they had won it........supersub said "notlikely". He was excellent that day and we missed a couple other chances too.
Oddly enough Foster will be in these parts tomorrow as he is manager of Gillingham (not the kent version) and they are at Buckland in a cup match.

That's good Daz, I've got the DVD somewhere, but no idea where.
We'll never see a comeback better than Aldershot though.

Matt.
