"The transfer of footballers is subject to VAT in the same way as any other goods or services. Domestic transfers in the UK are taxable at the 17.5% standard rate. However, transfers between football clubs in the EU are relieved of VAT. Sales from a UK club to a buyer outside the EU are also free of VAT, although if a UK club buys a player from outside the EU it must account for VAT on the purchase.lexusguy wrote:Just had a thought Is VAT payable on transfers
The transfer window has no real effect on the VAT position. If a club has a December VAT period, but wants to buy a player in the first week of January it could bring the tax point forward by requesting a VAT invoice from the selling club on 31 December. Of course, this might meant that the selling club has to pay its VAT three months earlier."

This is why Barcelona lied about the Neymar price to avoid 52% tax in Spain. The transfer eventually cost €100+ million

I see Bobby Olejnik has joined him on loan at Scunthorpe. Obviously out of favour at Peterborough!

No worries, ethantufcbaker, in fact you get my vote to be in No 11 Downing Street!
I think their policy is you sign a new contract when you've got one year left or you're sold. No messing about, no waiting until the last minute for better offers, no running the contract down. I guess this time they've not found a buyer...bixieupnorth wrote:asked my posh mate about bobby situation, hes been loaned out as he's in his final year of contract and has refused to sign an extension. so looks like we'll be getting nothing from him then? apparently posh do this regularly with greedy players

It makes sense really, even if it's an important player, better to receive something now than nothing in 12 months time.

In 12 months time we could lose Pearce and maybe CameronPhilGull wrote: I think their policy is you sign a new contract when you've got one year left or you're sold. I posted on the Ex-Gull thread about Olejnik, he has a clause in his contract that every 10 football league games he plays for Peterborough, they have to pay us £10,000, and apparently it's getting a bit expensive for them...
