I also suggest we push the boat out and look after our future players and make them an offer that reflects their potential rather than the £125 a week we offered Levi. If that was my son who was an international I would be offended to think he could earn more stacking shelves at Tesco
Surely as Hutchings and Sullivan were contracted to the club until the summer, we have had to pay them off and therefore haven't actually saved any money? Seems a bit strange given Hearts are keeping tabs on Hutchings. As for Ives, from an outsider looking in, he had his head turned a long time ago and has no intention of staying.

Come on mate take off those rose tinted glasses in Hargreaves eyes Hutchings may not be ready but if he was down the road at Exeter who knows what he may have achieved as tisdale throws in his youngsters and isn't frightened to give them a chance. I used to watch Hutchings play against Matty Grimes and tom Nichols etc and he always did well. What is the difference at Exeter they get a shout at Torquay they don't.
but in the situation of fighting relagation last season was not the time to chuck him in!
and correct tommyg on ives^

Yeah, THAT'S the difference. I think there's more than one pair of rose tinted glasses in vogue around these parts.supergulls wrote:Plainmoor roar

So ...... Jake Hutchings on the bench on Sunday and presumably would have been brought on if anything happened to Downes or Pearce and then released two days later whilst he still has six months on his contract? Doesn't make any sense to me. I wish the lad good luck to wherever football takes him. What is happening at Plainmoor does not give much encouragement to other youngsters on the club's books.

Is that really what the club offered him?supergulls wrote:I also suggest we push the boat out and look after our future players and make them an offer that reflects their potential rather than the £125 a week we offered Levi. If he was not going to play against Alfreton (away) when no other defenders were fit, then it was hard to see a situation when he was going to get a game. It is disappointing to see the youth team graduates failing to make a first team impression, but Ives and Yeoman have shown that it is possible if you are good enough. I think the reality of the situation is that the youth team players at Exeter, and Ives/Yeoman, are simply better players and managed to earn themselves regular first team football. The way to get more youth team players into the first team is to improve the quality coming through rather than simply give more game time to the 17/18 year olds at the club. Levi Ives managed to get ahead of Cruise in the pecking order, I don't think Hutchings was ever going to get ahead of Downes/Pearce/MacDonald, and that's why he's been released. The same with Thompson and Chapell/Ajala/Briscoe/Cameron and Sullivan with Bowman/Acheampong/Yeoman - if they aren't going to get onto the pitch before their contracts expire then it's just bringing forward the inevitable.
So incredibly disappointing as it is to see one of our biggest hopes not make the grade here, unless you want to see MacDonald or Downes dropped for him, then you can see the reasoning behind it. This might be the difference in keeping Berry or another trialist at the club until the end of the season.

He is either clearing the decks ready to bring in some loanies or we are deeper in the sh*t than we think!
Forgot to add that with Mcdonald on a hat full of Yellows and Downes is racking up the Reds, we may find ourselves needing the likes of Jake sooner than we think!
How the mighty have fallen!

Does no-one at Plainmoor understand football? You don't release a 19 year old when other (especially bigger) clubs are sniffing around. At the very least we could have had some compensation if Hearts signed him at the end of the season and maybe even a little more if something could have been agreed now in January.
I love the club, I really do appreciate everything Thea and her family have done for us, Chris Hargreaves is a legend in my eyes. But Oh. My. God. Torquay United are so damn infuriating!
I still dream that one day we could emulate the likes of Colchester, Scunthorpe, Yeovil, Crewe or Port Vale and make it to the Championship, but everyday the whole idea of us ever being a successful club again seems even more ridiculous than when the last piece of news came out of the club. Aarrgghh. :-|

I don't really know what to make of all this to be honest. I don't know much about Hutchings at all but he hasn't broken into the first team at all. Sullivan has never looked good enough, and whilst Niall Thompson did look good enough when he started two managers havn't really rated him it seems.
I am shocked that Ives has left the club (if its correct). He is a good prospect for his age no doubt about it but in the two or three games he has played for us he has cost us goals in every game. In fact to be honest in the Bristol Rovers game he was in truth absolutely terrible.
I wouldn't see him as a premier league prospect at all. He isn't big enough or quick enough. If he has head turned by bigger clubs then fair enough but he has plenty of learning to do. In fact after bringing back Cruise into the team looked a sensible decision to me irrespective as to whether Ives was still here or not.

I think that the situation at alfreton was a win win for us but Chris failed to see it, the game was live on TV so the manager has only got to say to the cameras before the game we are giving a debut to a young centre back and if once on there he has a good game we are in a good situation. The club then knows he is good enough and it has also raised the players profile possibly putting him in the shop window to earn us revenue. By not giving him the chance we will never know and maybe Chris was just protecting the young lad. Either way I don't think we would have held it against Hutchings if he was thrown in and wasn't quite ready. I would like to think that a centre half who has played in the position all he's life couldn't have done worse than Richards on that day.Gulliball wrote:If he was not going to play against Alfreton (away) when no other defenders were fit, then it was hard to see a situation when he was going to get a game. Chris is more worried about his ego, in front of the caneras, rather than that of any player at club.

Have to agree with this about Ives. I know he's only young but he's nowhere near good enough defensively imo. At least not yet. He seems better going forward and might be worth a bash at left midfield.brucie wrote:I don't really know what to make of all this to be honest. Anyone watching Ives over his last few games would have noticed that he had a problem with his mobility and he had been playing with a bad back. The youth game played at Plainmoor he struggled and a few weeks later he was in the first team when Cruise was injured. He was carrying it then.
I could be wrong but I think that he is injured and yes he is disappointed with his offer and yes another club is waiting in the side lines but I think the report on him in the Express saying he'd been told to rest and has gone home to Ireland to rest is the more likely to be right. This is that is what you do with bad backs, rest at his age.
It's a shame that the club cannot increase their offer but if he's been offered a deal with a club in the football league then so be it and best of luck to him.
I still have not changed my mind that he will make the grade if he stays here or moves on but the club will miss out on a good investment when and if he goes.

It seems Hearts took Hutchings up the day after we released him
