As someone else already explained (Mid Devon maybe?) a 12 months rolling does NOT necessarily mean that. It CAN also mean that the contract is reviewed every 12 months (say in this case, each 1st July maybe?) and as long as both parties are happy, the contract continues for another 12 months. If not, the contract lapses.
Can't see that this is right... why call it a 'rolling contract' if it is just a standard one year agreement?
Exeweb users have long bemoaned Tisdale's one year rolling contract, as it means there is always one year left to run (ie one year's pay-off owing at the point of sacking).
Some managers are excellent, some are terrible, but the vast majority of them are merely capable. Clubs like Torquay are unlikely to gain and retain the next Alec Ferguson. We should offer 1 or 2 year fixed contracts to protect ourselves as much as poss from costly pay-offs.
I assume 'rolling contracts' offer protection in the other direction too. If you have a manager on a 12 month rolling contract, who performs well and gets poached by a bigger fish, you have some compensation to soften the blow.
"Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something."
True, but that's what I mean by my Alec Ferguson remark. If a Torquay-standard manager gets pinched, there will be 20+ applicants of a similar standard.
Sunnysideup wrote: My understanding of his years rolling contract is that he always has a year left. So in January his contract would, in theory, have 1 year left. In February it wold still have 1 year left etc etc. If this is the case then I would guess he would be entitled to a years compensation.
If Thea is running the show as it is her money then she must think the money paying him off is a wise investment.

In terms of Ling it does mean that, seeing as it isn't going to a tribunal, its safe to say Lings had a year pay off ~70K

I've been like this since birth, i've always had a face like a disheviled scrotum.
As for my ACTUAL scrotum................it's not looking good.

Maybe we should revert back to the thread? I'd retain Morris. I think we haven't seen the best of him yet and if he comes back really fresh for next season it could be like having a new player.

Charlie Williams did a Sunday lunchtime gig at Askern Miners Welfare and before he turned air blue with language, he had this warning to women present . . . . . . .
