According to HE, both Danny Stevens and Scott Rendell have been offered contracts until the end of the season and could be in the squad tomorrow evening against Burton

Hargreaves also has a new trialist at the club – 21-year-old Irish centre-back Eoin Wearen.
Dublin-born Wearen, who has represented Eire at Under-19 level, spent two years at West Ham, including a loan spell at Dagenham last season, before being released last summer.

Not sure why we are looking at another defender?
Replacement for McKenzie...

Unfortunately it appears that Hargreaves doesn't have any contacts whatsoever and is trying to recreate our conference side.
Signing Stevens is utterly ridiculous - hasn't played for anybody for christ knows how long and might it seems now be on the bench tomorrow night. What a joke.
Rendell isn't much better - if Hargreaves thinks that these two make our team stronger then he is delluded.

These certainly are not the signings I envisaged when CH took over and I'm not sure how I feel about it. If Stevens is able to play as he did during the first season under Ling, then he will be more effective than Cameron. But I generally found he was a frustrating player who gave the ball away too much. As for Rendell, again, I'm not sure...he can't get into a non-league team at the moment but it may just be that because of the shambles Knill left behind, that is all we can afford.

cant believe it either brucie.
however much - or little has been spent on these contracts would have been better made available for other players other than ex teamates who, as most people are aware on here, havnt exactly covered themselves in glory since they left us.
cant wait for the other heroes to return.........

if we were in the conference, do you think we'd be in lutons position? they're a better team than us at this moment in time! also, rendell can't do much less than ball, and hawley (before these past couple of games)! if O'Connor can put balls in the box like he did against morecambe, then rendell will get on the end of them. let's give rendell a chance! still, Stevens is a different kettle of fish, but I guess he'll be good for us in the conference next year!

The Stevens one worries me too. Whichever full back
he plays in front of will get no protection whatsoever. If that full back is going to be Nicho our left hand side will be very weak defensively.
Rendell is probably worth a punt, and that's what it is
is really, a punt. He's been effective with EB before so hopefully they can be again.
Whatever the starting xi is tomorrow I'll support each
of them 100%. Hopefully the rest of the popside will afford them the same.

I've no doubt in my mind that Chris has been given a budget, and I've no doubt in my mind that this budget is a lot less than most, if not all, of the other clubs in our Division.
I've also got no doubt that Chris knows how he wants to play, knows who he wants to play in each position and is recruiting based on all of the above.
He, more than anybody else since Bucks, knows what makes Danny tick, he knows how he plays, his strengths, weaknesses etc. He clearly feels that Danny fits into the plan he has in his head and so, therefore, gets my backing.
It's only his third managerial game ever tomorrow (weather permitting) - let's back him, trust his judgement and see what happens. We may all be in for a big surprise

Unfortunately, the 1st miracle that I had hoped Jesus would bring to our clubs fortunes does not now look likely ! :

The Gulls team so far this season has not been scoring goals, and the defence has been making errors conceding too many goals. They have often been disorganised and playing without confidence and inspiration. They are currently in the relegation zone.
Now they have a new manager brought in to turn things around. It's his job to motivate and inspire and organise the players to improve performance levels and take them up the table to avoid the dreaded drop. If he achieves this it will be a minor miracle. It's also his job to be constantly looking to bring in players to add to the performance levels, improve the quality of the team, and provide sufficient back-up to maintain the quality of the team. All this on a miniscule budget.
To achieve all this he and the players need and deserve the full backing of all supporters. Yet still there are those who rush to judgement and criticism as if they knew far better then anybody else how to manage a football team. There should be a few faces red with embarrassment if Chris Hargreaves leads the team to a safe comfortable position at the season's end, and even more when Danny Stevens comes into the team and scores a brace of brilliant goals, a feat we've rarely seen, if at all, so far in this campaign.
