You miss my point, Brucie, as Stefano keeps trying to attribute Northampton's stunning form to football genius, Knill.

Hamstring by the look of it, so who knows? Could be ok Saturday or could be longer. Reaction to the next training session will tell...

The above comment was intended to be a jocular one, satirical, perhaps cynical and sardonic, with a touch of irony, as anyone who has read the 'Newport - All Ticket' thread will understand. Sad to see two twts on this match thread who lack either the brains or the sense of humour (I would suggest both) to appreciate this; it seems they've not bothered to read the 'Newport - All Ticket' thread, not that it's entirely necessary: any half-intelligent reader should have perceived the jest. Planks.

It's funny how it works out but the supporters who did not turn up for the last few games have missed the best games of the season. It was good to see Ashley's tap in hit the net as I thought the game was drifting to a 1-1 draw. It was only justice as we were the better team again. It's a shame Craig was not on the bench as well as he has things to offer the squad as well. We need a wide player and Chapell did not make the bench so could be out of favour.
Hope the crowd improves for the weekend but being an all ticket game is a joke.

Well well well. Another 3 points to keep the dream alive.

1st half we were much the better side and certainly had the measure of Bury. WTF was their keeper doing in the first half. Every time he touched the ball you thought he would score in his own net :~D. We should have tested him more than we did.

Mansell took his goal well which came when we'd put them under a few minutes of pressure.

Their equaliser was against the run of play (again) and looked like our defence switched off. However it was buried (pardon the pun) well, giving Ricey no chance.

Stevens came on at half time and replaced Cameron, but I'm unsure why the change. Whether he was injured or the yellow card he picked up early in the game may have influenced CH's decision.

2nd half Bury started the strongest and piled on the pressure, which we seemed to soak up well. However, there was still no cutting edge to our play. With 15 mins to go, CH sends on Yeoman and Stockley for Showumni and Benners (who I thought run his socks off again tonight). Had the script been written for Yeoman to pinch a late equaliser? You bet it had. In injury time up he pops and from about 8 yards out buries it in the onion bag. Que the ecstatic celebrations, Plainmoor went wild. The remaining minutes seem to drag on, but we weren't to be denied tonight. Not a great performance but sod it. The 3 points were more important.

Can anyone please explain why Stevens got the Twitter Man of the Match award? He was only on the pitch for half the game and didn't do anything spectacular.

My last thought goes to the ref. WTF was he doing tonight. He booked Cameron early in the 1st half for pinching a few yards at a free kick. This then set the tone for the rest of the match and if I'm honest made a few bizarre decisions all game, culminating in us receiving 4 yellows. Biased I may be, but tonight I didn't think our tackles/ challenges warranted 4 yellows to their 1.

Onwards and upwards peeps.
Steve

Surely we can't keep saying we must win the next match to have hope of survival as games are running out. Bury on Tuesday is the last throw of the dice. Win or Bust, and even a win is clutching straws in our fight for survival. If and that's a big IF we do win, we have to take a comfort that our last 5 matches of the season are against fellow relegation threatened teams. That doesn't include York away which is winnable I presume. Forget Scunny at home, Southend away. I am almost feeling positive, but No. I just have this hope that if we beat Bury, scrape a draw at York, our run in is in our hands. Regarding Bury match it's plain and simple 3 Points!
Lucy come on get the Newport post up and keep our luck going.

One of the very few advantages of being a season ticket holder i suppose.

Obliged to attend every game, you get the chance to see the good, bad and the ugly.

Brilliant result tonight, I can't imagine the dressing room after - must have been amazing.
Wonderful story for Ashley, when he scores we stay up - happened last year... :keepie:
The great escape is right on track now - hold tight, big girl knickers on!
This last couple of months will be down to momentum...Newport look like they could go down even. :)
A win against them on Saturday and our lads grow a couple of inches taller and a yard faster...we can bloody do this :engflag:
Well done everyone and I bid you all a good evening! :engflag:

Three vital points and it was an entertaining game but let's be honest, the 'football' from both sides was pretty abysmal. Misplaced passes, lumping the ball up in the air, no variations on corners or free kicks. As we all saw, their keeper was a nervous wreck and it was plain to see that the Bury defenders had no confidence in him and yet for all that, we didn't really put him under any pressure. Most of our attacks were aerial assaults which their defenders mopped up and said thank you very much. Cameron put in a few low crosses but there was nobody gambling to get on the end. The best move of the match ended with Mansell scoring a well taken goal.

No complaint about lack of effort and no complaint about lack of support tonight. I liked Danny Stevens in our Conference days and even in our first season back in the league. But that was then - this is now. I don't understand how he can be picked ahead of Jordan Chappell. I was surprised what a poor side Bury were ..... in my opinion, the worst side in a very poor league this season. Maybe they had an off night - if they play many matches like that, they will be real contenders for relegation despite what SuperNickWroe says ! Finally, yet another poor performance by a referee. I try not to criticise refs too much but the standard of refereeing we have seen this season has been bliddy awful.

The football played last night was better than the average in L2. If we'd played exactly like that every week this season, we'd be where Plymouth are now (at least). Bury were hopeless at the back and very one dimensional going forward. Their only option was the big diagonal towards Platt. Their keeper was a joke, the worst I've ever seen (and I've seen Alan Julien score two OGs in one match). He didn't have the first clue about goalkeeping. He looked like the fat kid at school who always got picked last and stuck in goal (Super, I'm looking at you).
My real concern is that we're going to be exhausted for Saturday. I know you don't feel it when you win, but it's the end of the season, the boys worked unbelievably hard yesterday and Newport are another side that we can definitely beat if we apply ourselves.
As much as, at 1930 yesterday, it seemed as though the failure of a referee to spot a very clear foul on Bodin against Northampton might just relegate us, could it now be that one last ditch goal from a returning Yeoman keeps us up?
Referee, as others have said, was a bizarre individual. All the officials got basically everything wrong, for both sides. Perhaps that's how they decided to even it out? Four bookings on a night when there wasn't really a tackle in the match is just daft. No need for there to have been 5 yellows issued. If you consider that Cameron for the same punishment for not moving the ball to where the referee wanted it (despite not knowing where the spot was, because he didn't see the foul, which was given by the lino) as the Cheltenham bloke did for a kung fu kick into a Torquay chest on Saturday, things seem to stop making sense.

Still, three very well deserved points and a real boost going into a match against yet another Conference South standard side.

Matt.

I don't think Brucie missed the point at all. In fact you missed his point Hector. Brucie is more astute (and humourous) than you give him credit for ;-)

I think if we trawl back through your posts, Stefano, we will see you trying to suggest that Northampton's upturn in form has been down to Alan Knill. Just wondered where you stood on this now, where even CH now has a better record at TUFC than Knill did.

Hargreaves has managed as many home wins in a week, as Knill did in 5 months.
