If what Steve Breed stated on the radio this afternoon is accurate, and at this point I have no reason to doubt that it is, then I have a lot of sympathy with he and the board. They were put in an impossible position and it really is leaving the club in the lurch massively to request a meeting on Thursday and then announce your resignation on Friday, one day before a match, leaving inexperienced people to take over. We're essentially a rudderless ship right now.

What is the point of this meeting? PC is no longer the manager so why would he then get someone to try and buy the club?.. or am I misunderstanding things?
Perhaps you're misunderstood a little. Prior to Cox's resignation my belief is that he approached the board with the offer of a take over from a wealthy......extremely wealthy football loving associate. This was rebuffed by the existing existing board, as i imagine, any one with that kind of capital will be clever enough to realise incompetence from certain individuals shall we say. As a result PC tendered his resignation

Mm mm. I would say Halifax is his next jobGulliball wrote:Quotes below from the chairman in the Herald just now. It gives the impression that he has been offered something somewhere else, and has effectively said 'pay me or I'll take the job that will pay me'. You can't really blame Paul Cox for this, as you can't expect someone to stay on an expenses only deal if he's had a better offer there.
We'll have to wait for the other side on Monday, but this does actually ease some fears. If this wasn't a result of anything disastrous from our end, just a change of heart from Cox, then saying this yesterday instead of the empty statement might have prevented a few of the rumours starting and kept the mood more positive ahead of the game today.
Losing Cox is a blow but there will be a new manager and our financial situation hasn't changed.

If Breed is so shocked with the callibre of candidates for the Managers post what can we offer them as a package, bearing in mind PC was not getting paid?
DE has recently become DOF, who is the Commercial Manager?

My assumption is that they were expecting to get Hargreaves and Hodges off the wage bill soon, freeing up money for Cox's salary and his (now) successor.MF68 wrote:If Breed is so shocked with the callibre of candidates for the Managers post what can we offer them as a package, bearing in mind PC was not getting paid?

Exodus could take over as player/manager and be our Moses, to take us to the promised land..
Oh wait, we'd be forty years in the wilderness... :-|

So when we appointed Paul Cox it seemed a win win situation, he was still getting paid by Mansfield hence him not wanting to go on a contract here and we were only paying expenses. Sounds good from a club with no money and a brand new board.......
What I can't understand is why now, 2-3 weeks before they were due to sit down for contract talks as arranged, the club are "flabbergasted" that he now wants a contract. Surly they would have known the terms he wanted when they 'appointed' him, and were working towards that??
Was also interesting to see how far apart Edwards and Ramshaw were in the dugout, and to me appeared that Ramshaw wasn't doing any shouting or talking to the players, Edwards was doing all the subs etc... and then Ramshaw comes out to face the media!!

High calibre enquires of interest or not - if we could not afford to pay Paul Cox a wage (yet can afford to pay a DoF) - how many managers are going to come in for an expenses-only deal? If subsequently, the club offers a new manager a contract, then Paul Cox could feel legitimately aggrieved.
We have footballing staff on the payroll, tending their garden. As unpalatable as it may seem to some, we may as well use them. Rather than add another salary to the wage bill, if the main objective of this season is simply to still be in existence come May, and be able to convince the Conference that we are a able to complete our fixtures in 16/17, then it may as well be Hargreaves and Hodges. The club can get rid of them at the end of the season and start again. The club needs to look a bit further ahead.

One of the main short term challenges is that both were sacked and are not being paid and Club is subject to unfair dismissal claims being supported by LMA Lawyersdivingbboy wrote: My assumption is that they were expecting to get Hargreaves and Hodges off the wage bill soon, freeing up money for Cox's salary and his (now) successor.
Paul Cox was paid up by Mansfield and did not receive his expenses for over 2 months
Would any one on here work for nothing being over 200 miles from wife and daughters
The problem sits with DE and his ego and ridiculous salary he put himself on for 2 years the Club is trading insolvent and is weeks away from its demise
I think the fact he wasn't on a contract is due to the Mansfield thing. I guess it's the same as Hargreaves, the fact that as soon as he gets another job, his gardening leave ends and Mansfield dont have to pay him. Same like us and Hargreaves.
Im guessing the reason Cox wanted an expenses only deal is that he knew he could continue on that and still get paid from Mansfield which would of been a lot more than what we could of paid....
But then why were we not able to offer him a contract is what gets me!!!

So who are you Mushroom? You obviously work for the club or are closely connected to someone in the know. If we're weeks away from demise then why not reveal yourself and put your reputation on the line? Or are you just a former employee with an axe to grind?
