Torquay Summer Transfers Thread INs and OUTs
Not sure if it has been mentioned already but i found it interesting that he has already decided that he wants Stevens and Oastler to stay on. Fair enough i think we'd all take Oastler as he is one for the future but there had been debate amungst us whether Stevens could really cut it at this level. And clearly the board may side with some of the fans in thinking that he is not crucial for next term as it has been shown that the board offered deals to players - Branston and Bevan, in the hope of keeping this squad together yet Stevens gets left to await the decision of the manager who has probably never seen him play.

Maybe one day, Carayol will find London...
I think it's a valid point.stevegull wrote:Not sure if it has been mentioned already but i found it interesting that he has already decided that he wants Stevens and Oastler to stay on. I wonder who is making the decision about retaining Danny Stevens and offering a new contract to Joe Oastler because as far as I can see the only time Martin Ling is likely to have seen either of them play was in their cameo performances at Old Trafford! He admits himself that having worked in the Conference for the last eighteen months and scouted in League One for the last 4 months he knows nothing about the Torquay squad.
Is it the Board's decision to re-employ Stevens and recruit Oastler ? If so, why are they making these decisions? Perhaps they are only honouring promises made by the previous Manager? In which case I'm not sure that it's the right way forward, although admittedly it is the "honourable" thing to do ... but as we well know there isn't a lot of that left in football these days!
It's also a bit of a concern of mine that Alex Russell (much as I'd love him to come back) seems to almost be being foisted on the incoming Manager when surely such an important decision as hiring your No 2 should be the Manager's and the Manager's alone?
It does smack a little bit of weakness on the part of Martin Ling, hopefully I am wrong, but he is "in the chair" now, has got his contract and whatever he may have agreed to at interview - as far as I am concerned he is now in a position to say NO to the Board, I am going to do it my way!

Bet they're all gutted with that. Fancy players of that low quality being linked with Rovers, they should be "aiming a lot higher" than him.gullno4 wrote:Apparently zebs had his medical at rovers today?
Anyhow, answer to your question.....it was probably Virgo, he's just signed. Gas are adamant that Zebroski is signing for them in the near future tho.

So having waited 2 weeks for a manager, how long do we think we'll have to wait for some players...?

Confused by this. A keeper who struggled in L2 last year, signed by a top half L1 club.regiment wrote:i see City have signed Lenny Pidgeley. Thought he might have been on our radar, but there's another one gone.

He's utterly dreadful and a complete tool to boot. Exeter fans not happy, rightly so really.regiment wrote:i see City have signed Lenny Pidgeley. Thought he might have been on our radar, but there's another one gone.

I thought they fell out? I'm not sure whether we want the exact managerial team that failed at Cambridge though.northyorkshiregull wrote:Paul Carden has left Cambridge,he use to be assistant to Ling before.I wonder if he is coming hear

Rovers have signed Harrold from Shrewsbury. Maybe less likely now that Zebs will go there?
