The problem, as I believe it to be, is that we are NOT ALLOWED to use the new stand, until such time as all renovation work has been completed INTERNALLY as well as EXTERNALLY. Now the external stuff should all be finished, but rumour has it, Westlands School will not have all of their internal work finished on time, thus stopping TUFC from using the stand. I understand Westlands are hoping to get everything sorted within a couple of weeks of the school holidays, which would tie in perfectly with the date of the Stoke game.
It's not a particular problem. It's a contractual thing. For United to use the stand the Builder will have to satisfy the health and safety people that everything is as it should be. United cannot take delivery as it were untill the whole building is signed off as fit for purpose. If a builder tried to hand over a stadium with half finished work and couldn't meet all the safety criteria then it lends itself to being prosecuted. and worse someone could get hurt. So everything has to be finished and then the building is signed off and we can take possession of it.
BTW it being fitted out I think you mean. Not renovated. that only applies to old buildings that need revamping.

The new grandstand is an enormous improvement on the previous structure, which always reminded me of Victorian/Edwardian England.

But why does the new one make me think of Soviet Russia and Gladiator and Darth Vader..?? :B

Definition of RENOVATE

transitive verb

1

: to restore to a former better state (as by cleaning, repairing, or rebuilding).

I'll stick with renovate!!!

It wasn't rebuilt, repaired or cleaned. It was knocked down and a new one put in its place so renovate is totally the wrong word for it.

I knew the trickie dickies would pounce on it, that's why inverted commas were used.

I thought you was my friend. I thought you was a technical engineer. ;-)

Nope, as it's not called the grandstand. Bristow bench has replaced it!

The name doesn't dictate that, the structure and location does. If the ground was knocked down, and then 4 new stands built, and the ground took on a new name, Plainmoor would've been re-built, just under a different guise, in much the same way as the Grandstand/Bench has.

The old grandstand hasn't been rebuilt. It has been replaced by a new one. Therefore the use of the word 'renovate' is inappropriate in this context.

But I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. I have seen far worse inappropriate words on other forums. In comparison, torquayfans.com is as close to the epitome of intellectual, cultural and moral refinement in the use of the English language as can be found on an internet football forum.
