absolute jokes :)

Maybe worth a seperate thread but I was thinking yesterday not only is Rene Howe the best striker in the division, especially in the role he plays but is he the best striker we've had?

i know there will be others from years gone by that the older members of the forum would have seen, even in the recent history David Graham was pretty damn good as was Tim Sills (at Conf level) but for me, for all round game, what he brings to this side, skill and hopefully this season a stack of goals I honestly think Rene is the best i've seen. He is absolute class.

We conceded three goals in one game!

And we only just about managed to scrape a win by a single goal!

Ling out...!!

Shots forum is back online.

Makes for some interesting reading...

Some of them are calling for their manager's head and others are saying the wind inside Plainmoor scewed the game horribly in our favour! Many of them are talking of their total domination in the first half and I simply don't think that was the case. Before they scored the game was fairly even and even after that Aldershot didn't have enough chances to warrant going 3 up at the start of the second half. We were abject for that 30 minutes of play but Aldershot definitely didn't deserve that kind of lead!

Some of them also go so far as to congratulate us for our comeback, which is something nice at least.

We were poor in the first half, we didn't adapt to the conditions, nor the fact Branston was dominating the ball up to Rene. If there is a team in the league who should know that Branno feeds off high balls up to a striker it's us, yet we still persisted. That was the most disappointing thing in the first half. Too many times Oastler or Saah had the ball and instead of playing into Niall Thompson who could run at his full back or in turn play the ball inside or Nathan Craig in space who we saw played some nice passes, we played it aimlessly forward. What Ling has been saying about playing the extra ball into midfield before going forward was completely ignored and at half time I was quite despondant.

Last 20 minutes we were good and that co-incided with Jarvis coming on. Bodin went wide left, Rene dropped off and he was awesome, I constantly tell him on twitter he is class and he proved it again tonight. He played some lovely football with Craig and Bodin and we looked capable of scoring goals. I hope it can be a kickstart to our season but the result must not cloud the performance of the first 65 minutes where we were as poor as we have been in a while, I'm sure Ling won't let that happen.

Few notes - Danny Stevens is not an automatic starter anymore, he was poor but I was happy not to hear too much moaning at him from the popside because he could have got a bit of abuse.
- Our defence, in particular Saah, looked shakey. Are they missing Lathrope? I feel we are missing him big style if we are still trying to play three in midfield.
- Interesting to see Dean Holdsworth said they were magnificent in the first half and not as good in the second. I thought they were the poorest team since Accrington last year in the first 45, can anyone remember an attack that wasn't a set-piece? Second half they played some decent stuff at times but defended far, far too deep

Rene Howe, take a bow. Best individual performance (up with EoK vs Plymouth) in a long long time. He covered every blade of grass last night. Delighted he got the winner too - unplayable.

Best striker in the division.

As for Branston, got a good reception, bit disappointed when he was rolling around on the floor but he seemed to be happy to be back.

As Nick said, a bit of banter with Branston when he hit the deck and he proceeded to try and 'rev up' the Plainmoor faithful. It was all in good spirits.

Proud to be able to say "I was there" and will be talking about that one for years. Amazing stuff and why we love football.

If Nicho's shot (ok clearance) from in his own half had gone in the roof would have come off the pop side.

Was good to see the club finally restrict away fans to the bench. With such a small following it makes sense to save money on the stewarding and other costs associated with opening the away end. Plus the away team don't benefit from having their fans chearing them on from behind the goal. Good work.

Rene Howe = Legend.

Oh and whatever contract Nathan Craig is on it isn't long enough.

It;s back up now. They closed it so people could calm down after the result

What a comeback though last night! The key thing we need to do now is build on it and go on a run and get a bit of consistency going.

Branno was quality, and loves all the cheering and jeering he gets from fans. Did anyone else on the pop see him rip his own shirt and then conmplain to the ref?! Hero.
