Bury v Torquay United - 2/11/13

Efficient performance on Saturday. Was more impressed with the centre backs than anything else, 1-3 probably a bit generous for us maybe? I'm probably just being negative. Loved McCourt, seems to be our only creative outlet. Think he's the most vital loanee for us. Actually slated McCallum throughout the game but his goal(s) shut me up. He works perfectly with Benyon imo, I'd give those two time to develop.

First opportunity that i have had to post about the game, obviously delighted about the result.

Andy is right insofar that it wasn't the most convincing of performances and 3-1 perhaps flattered us a little bit. Bury had us under the cosh for long periods (though we were valliantly resolute to shut them out) and it was only two well executed set pieces (right from Nico's old school) that got our noses infront. However I think Andy needs to render the manner of the performance as insignificant as to me the only important thing about yesterday was the result. That could be a massive result. I also think it is worth mentioning that the weather played a crucial part in lowering the standard of football on display,those conditions would have tested Arsenal's capabilities.

When i heard the team i must admit i was worried, I must hold my hands up and say I got it wrong. Bringing Downes back was excellent judgement, he was outstanding, O'Connor is improving every game and looks an exciting prospect. McCallum was a real handful and linked up well with the rest of the team, I wasn't too excited when I heard of his signing, but fair play to the young man, I am now a fan. Everyone put in a really decent shift, even if some struggled to get into the game. The most pleasing thing about yesterday for me was the sense of togetherness and solidarity in the team that had been faltering in recent weeks, wins are the best way to build team spirits. Lets hope this is the start of something positive.

Agree with Andy in the main about loan players, but only because I have become accustomed to the Ling philosophy of sticking with what you've got. Football is an ever changing game and sometimes you have to open your mind to other methodologies, perhaps i have been too hasty to write off Knill's ways and strategies, not helped by the fact I find it difficult to warm to him, however if the calibre of his loan signings are of this quality then who am I to argue if we continue picking up points. Andy is right though, for this not to become a flawed methodology these loanees either need to be used long-term or those players who are unfancied need to be shipped out. I firmly believe consistency is the key to success. For what its worth McCourt would have been my man of the match yesterday.

Just pleased to get a result yesterday, against an equally struggling Bury side, was a classical league two match between two distinctly average teams. Hopefully the malaise of the last 6 weeks is starting to clear now and we can put it all behind and move on to better times. I am yet to be totally convinced by all that Alan Knill does but yesterday went a long way to displaying signs of progress. We can enjoy a week's grace of the league now, and bask in not being bottom of the league, hopefully the confidence gained from a battling win in attrocious conditions can spur us on to a vital cup win, momentum gained there will see us in a good position to push on the rest of the month.

it's an excellent result, it doesn't matter if it was deserved, undeserved, lucky or whatever, 3-1 away from home happy days in a game we had to get something from really. Delighted that Knill put Benyon in, he's been criminally underused this season in my opinion. He's someone that even if he's not playing well will always cause teams a problem and a headache and also McCallum did ever so well with the finish for the 3rd goal.

Downes makes a difference to us he's a leader and a winner and delighted to see him come back into the side, O'Connor should have been here from day one and this is why so we can have a decision to make and have decent cover for both centre back and right back. Pearce still isn't absolutely right and is still relatively young so we can allow him some time to fully recover and play the other lads. We threw a load of games away by not having this cover but right now we do have a decent enough squad for this level.

Great result and hopefully more of the same please over this difficult month.

It was neither lucky or undeserved. The forwards did their job's and the defence did theirs. Be they Torquay players or lonees they fought hard for the win. Ricey was outstanding. He made 2/3 super saves, but that's what he's there for...he's a goalkeeper. We want him to make great saves. The defence was magnificent and, as I said, when the defence was breached, Ricey was there to do his stuff. Jenson, made at least one fantastic save, from Manse. It was great to see Manse, whilst waiting for the resulting corner to be taken, have some banter with Jenson. They both ended up laughing whilst, obviously, sharing in a mutual admiration of each others talents. Brilliant. :~D

Lets rejoice in a fine away win, and hope that this result kick starts our stuttering season.

Would just like to thank the officials for not abandoning the game. To be honest, it was touch and go. I have never been to a match in such demanding conditions, and I've been to a few over the last 40 odd years. So well done and thankyou Mr Adcock.
