He hasn't become a bad player overnight. But by the same token he has been pretty inneffective for quite some time now. The captaincy has seemingly weighed heavily on him - or perhaps it's complete coincidence his poor form has coincided with that honour? In fairness to him, he was brought in to provide the creative spark in the middle of the pitch and did that well in the BSP. And since our promotion, he 's had to take on more defensive responsibilities, which means he's had to curb his attacking desires somewhat. But O'Kane has played the same role more recently, and has done it more effectively. Wroe certainly has a increasing tendancy to mis-place passes - he's actually become quite sloppy in possession, when retaining the ball was previously one of his strengths. Perhaps a change suits all parties at this time.

Although to be honest, this clarifying of the situation has confused me more.

He's a league 1 player when he's at his best IMO. I'm expecting over 100k for him of which will give a good return to the club. He has struggled of late but good luck to him.

on the TFF forum they are talking about "close connections" to the club tha t the money will be spent on a striker in the name of tom pope from rotherham or andy bishop from bury. and i am only the messenger, dont kill me .. so unlikely to happen why come here when your at a club that you have scored 55 goals from 160 odd appearances??

Well well. Looks like the Norway Gulls need to be on the lookout for a new nr 11 to sponsor then...

I agree with Fonda here,Nicky Wroe has not become a bad player overnight however on the flip has struggled of late,he is very talented player and to suggest otherwise is about as rediculous as my spelling ,he has increasingly had to become more involved in the defensive side of midfield which is not his strong point,he is a player who can score from midfield, and in an advanced position can be dangerous.
He will do very well for his new club, which will not suprise me one bit,and wish Nicky Wroe all the best for the future.

Footballers are just like everyone else, sometimes they just have to do what's best for them and theirs.
Good luck to the fella, yes he's not been at his best lately, but he has been an important part of the team.

Now that it's official, all the best to him wherever he goes (unless he's playing against us of course :? )
I'm sure he will do well whoever he plays for.

Hardly suprising news. Buckle's words seem to quantify everyones suspicions. Wroe isn't settled at the moment, doesn't want to sign a contract at the current time and its affecting his form, and Buckle wants to cash in while we can still command a fee.
However, we won't get £100k for him. I think we would bite anyones hand off if they offered half that. I'm guessing he'll be out of contract in the summer, so we won't be offered six-figure sums anytime soon.
We may be best off using him as leverage in a swap deal, and the names mentioned above are interesting (Pope and Bishop). Both at Northern clubs - which may suit Wroe if talk of his "unsettling" is true. However, Pope seems to be something of a £150k flop at Rotherham, he's only scored 4 goals in 30 odd games for the Millers, but did better at Crewe before that. He is a bit of a big lad though - and interestingly as I write this and look him up on Wikipedia it does say "The millers are currently considering a transfer offer from Torquay United for Pope". Andy Bishop is a guaranteed goals sort of guy when fit, hasn't played a great deal recently so could be available. I'd definately prefer Bishop over Pope, but this could be all wild speculation with no substance so time will tell.
Whatever happens, i hope it is concluded swiftly. It is no good for anyone to have an unhappy Nicky Wroe languishing on the sidelines for any length of time, or putting in distracted performances. I will wish him all the best in whatever happens - he's had some great performances for us, stuck at it through some rough times and been at the centre of some good times too. As Buckle says, maybe now is a good time for everyone to move on to pastures new.

I.M.O. he will never be better than a decent Conference player, he has scored the occasional "wonder goal" & up to lately was a good penalty specialist. I don't blame P.B. for not getting rid of him for a good fee when there was interest expressed at the start of last season, he was worth keeping to see if he could make the "step up".Yellow4life wrote:He's a league 1 player when he's at his best IMO. I don't expect that his new club will pay a fee for him, & would not be surprised if Torquay don't have to keep paying most of his wages until his contract is up.

The usual clarity from Bucks. What s the problem with that westy? Slightly unkind of them to include a picture of his penalty miss at Shrewsbury I thought.westbaygull wrote:Now on the O/S http://www.torquayunited.com/page/News/ ... 60,00.html

SNW as he was known in the BSP was an integral part of our return to the promised land. Since when I am not sure that he has fulfilled his own promise.
He always looked to have the necessary class to step up, but as others have alluded he has been asked to operate in a different role in a tougher league and without Greavsie as a minder.
I wish him well for the future.
