What a bunch of bed wetters there are on this site. Were the board supposed to take on the man who came top of the poll on here?Every manager with experience has failed at one club or another otherwise they wouldnt be looking for work.

Buckle did a decent job with us, and after 4 years of moving the club forward has gone to a club in the same division.
Ling did an utterly sh!te job, dropped a comparatively large club for their league from 2 PO finals in a row to 10th in his first season, and 16th when he was finally sacked. He has now got a job a league higher. There is no way we should have given the job to someone who has had such a shocker for his only managerial job, without him having proved himself at a BSP club/any other L2 club stupid enough to even consider him.

His only managerial job? Did you miss his six years at Leyton Orient?

With respect Miltonkeynesgull, what would have been wrong with Hargreaves and Russell, despite inexperience.

When he got them in the League 2 play-offs in his first season, promoted in his second, and then kept them in League 1 ;-)

To answer the question: No the board should not take not into account what the fans 'want', as a fans comments/decisions have no real ramifications for the clubs. it is all well saying behind the anonymity of a computer screen that I want Forster/Hughes/Hargreaves/Stalin etc for the job as it wont be the fans who have to live with the consequences. No doubt they have interviewed the candidates and asked people within the game their advice on them and made a decision.

All managers will have people who like them and dislike them. After all Buckle did for us there are still people who were glad to see him go. Fans are fickle and get carried away when we win and get down when we lose. We needed people with clear heads to make these decisions and not just cut and paste wikipedia as the basis of their decision.

Martin Ling deserves time and our support. No one really knows what went on behind the scenes at Cambridge, they are a club that seem to be in long-term decline. If we are bottom in April then fair enough slag him off, but if we are near the top then it will be a great appointment.

Lets judge him on what goes on on the pitch and not write him off 3 hours into his job.

Either way, I don't think it's right that he effectively gets a promotion after doing such a poor job.

jocktheknife wrote:Stupid thread.......

Sink your share of 1.4 million into the club and then you can have a say on who the new manager is.

Easy....
The club turned over £2.1m last season, of which a very good percentage comes from the fans.

I'm reasonably happy with the appointment of Ling, and can completely understand why the board went for him. But for a club our size to ignore its fans is totally counter-productive (not related to Ling, more to your quote above). Chris Roberts bought us and appointed Lubos, as he was perfectly entitled to do as owner...

This is...wrong. On so may levels. Pretty sure Ling likes to play 'decent' football, so you'll have no complaints there. The kind of football that Eunan might revel in in fact. As for Hargreaves, the board would be stupid to bring him in as assistant - for exactly the reason you highlight. As soon as we lose a game, people like yourself would be demanding he's promoted to the top job, and no manager can function in those circumstances. What has Greavsie achieved that makes him so worthy? Captained us and coached some kids? Please.

Answer to the thread question : yes, the fans do count and the board are hoping that they'll be counting more fans through the turnstiles next season.

I'm as disappointed as anyone with the events of the last month. What I haven't done is become a serial negative moaner on the numerous threads regarding departures/appointments.

As has been pointed out on another thread, the spine of the side has gone, as has the penis (spine and penis use the same i,e,n,p,s letters) to dick about elsewhere.
So when a woman says to you she loves a spine erect upstanding man with backbone (although she hasn't said it directly), you'll know precisely what she means. ;-)

I don't expect the team to hit the ground running and tearing up trees next season. It's a rebuild, in more ways than one and consolidation is the first priority. Anything downward of consolidation will be a huge disappointment. Anything upward a bonus.

Roll on Thursday and Friday (Carling Cup draw and Season fixture list) and pre season friendlies.

Its just sad that 2 weeks after having the opportunity of entering league 1, a lot of us now are hoping to finish third bottom of league 2. How things can change.

Of course the fans count. As mentioned they are the most important income for the club. I think the events of the last month could have been better handled but we dont have alan sugar at the club. We in fact have a very limited budget and as a consequence must have to cut things in order to try and make ends meet. For example questions have been asked of why dont we have:

Extra telephone lines for the tickets

Consistent emails for the club

Appointed a better manager.

The phone lines and emails addresses and every other little thing else adds up cost. Whereas the manager, I liked the sound of Forster or Hughes, but Forster is very inexperienced with only a few months managerial experience. Hughes will probably require a large wage, having managed in the SPL.

I think the club are doing a decent job. Lets just wait and see.
