Essentially the club sat down after the year and as they were not happy with Ling's performance thay are free to let him go.
I suspect they paid him up to the review date in June and that was it
I cannot see any grounds on which Ling could claim unfair dismissal
beat me to it middevon.
neither can I.
austrianandy will be made up.

I did expect this-all the signs were there in recent weeks. Still feel sorry for Ling though-did really well for us for most of the season before last and we should be grateful for that.Knill said in the Gulls Nest on Saturday that he and Brass enjoyed every minute of their time here and contrasted it to their time at Scunthorpe-which wasn't always so good he said.Player wise,Knill is a big fan of Benyon and Jarvis of those not yet contracted to us-so expect deals for them if Knill confirmed as new manager.

I watched Taylor during the debacle that was the Bradford game (the match wasn't worth watching) and it was painfully obvious he was nowhere near involved in anything. Taxi for Taylor.

You should have seen him at Aldershot away then!

Look I think it's the right decision, I agree with brucie's post on the other thread about Ling's position basically becoming untenable by the end
BUT
I don't like it that we told him he was returning to his job from the sounds of it within the last week or two, had a date set for his return then sacked him by phone last night. That is nonsense.

I think we are doing the board a disservice - I don't think this decision had a thing to do with the fans reaction after the Bristol Rovers game at all.
As I said on another thread this is really the ONLY decision that could have been made.

Bristow sacked Ling by telephone? Cool.

I agree Royal, but at the same time would there have been any point in him coming all the way down from his home just to be told he was having his contract terminated?

Royalgull - Like the rest of us you probably don't know exactly in what order things of happened. We don't know that anyone has assured Ling that he was coming back. I think getting hung up about Thea Bristow advising him of the decsion prior to any meeting is fairly pointless.

And you were told this by who?

i wonder if the board were thinking we might get relegated and would offer him the chance to return with us in the BSP.
but with us retaining our status, perhaps they changed their minds. they may think the same as posters on here - that the type of football that was being played would see us in another relegation fight next season.
and of course knill/brass saying that "they loved every minute" and "were hanging around on hols for a week" may have swung the boards thinking into looking to keep them on here and of course the great response they both received at the end of the rovers game.

Yes budleigh - you are completely right. This obviously isn't a spur of the moment decision.
