Some of the things that have been posted in recent weeks about a man who was doing the best he could with extremely limited resources have been an absolute disgrace. Mr Knill was not an embarassment to our club. Many of our supporters(?) are! I only hope the new appointee manages to see an upturn in points on the board very quickly, or he / she (nothing in the rules to prevent a lady applying) will be vilified within about 5 games!

Spot on.

He WANTS to play for this club; he always wants to play and he still has a lot to give.

Don't make personal comments about players, who you clearly don't know!
Personal attacks on players is exactly what Stefano was on about in his posting - some recent postings have been extreme and uncalled for. Kevin Nicholson has been a great player for this club. None of us know for sure what has gone on 'behind the scenes' between Nico and Knill or why Nico asked for a loan move.

taunton_gull wrote:I agree exile, man management didn't seem to be Knill's thing but as far as I can see Nicho cut his nose to spite his face as soon as he was out of the side. He has been individually responsible for so many goals conceeded earlier in the season and there's no chance I would have him back in the team at the expense of Cruise, regardless of what he has achieved at the club previously. I'm sorry to say it but he has been finished as a league footballer for a long time. That's why the next appointment is so important, if we get someone who is weak and panders to the likes of Mansell and Nicholson we've had it for sure.
I think you are out of order it was the system leaving both fullbacks exposed and not Nicholsons fault altogether. Knill had no idea how to pick a balanced side and yes protect against a lack of pace. It's why Nico was upset because Knill made him look a bad player then confidence goes.

I'm pleased, from a Torquay United FC perspective, but I do have a little sympathy for Alan Knill and his family. Its not pleasent for anyone to lose their job, in this day and age. I'm sure Ak did, what he though was best, unfortunately it was not right for our club. So, as I've said, happy from the club, but sympathy for a man losing his job.
Good luck Alan, hope you find somewhere that suits you.

No, people are playing the 'I'm a nice person' card even though they hated the job Knill was doing. Why should we be nice to people who are doing quite well off the back of us thank you very much and not giving anything back? He's not bothered, he's got a pay off and will be back in management somewhere else. It's us that have forked out money and travelled all over the place to watch such crap that have a right to feel zero sympathy whatsoever. Sympathy is there for people that deserve it. I'm a decent person also but cannot understand the outpouring of sympathy now just because it is deemed the right thing to do. Why should I if I don't feel that way? I feel completely let down by Knill and why should I be sorry for him? So I can be nice? He'll be absolutely fine don't worry about him meanwhile we are still in the crap and with fans having been brought to the brink of desperation by one man and one man alone and you want to be nice?!! If he had done his job properly, not even that, if he had done half that we'd all still be happy and Knill would still be here but he hasn't and so it's goodbye Alan. He kept us up last season for which we've all given thanks but there is absolutely nothing to thank him for this.

Nicholson asked to go out on loan and nobody took him. Sentiment aside he is not good enough to play league football anymore. I've lost count of the number of times (even pre-Knill) teams have a gameplan to target him because they know he can be exposed.

If David Cameron was out of a job next week would you feel sympathy because you're a 'decent human being' or would you go and have a few beers? You make me laugh.

I wish I could say you did the same for me. So it's now all Mr Cameron's fault, picking the wrong team, playing the wrong formation, and failing to make the changes required. It's impossible to make up really!

Right, you bloody Northerners had your fun when Mrs Thatcher died so, for the this post only I will celebrate!!

I'M BLOODY DELIGHTED HE HAS GONE!!!!

Sorry that a man had to lose his job, but he was a shocking football manager that was never in a million years going to get us out of the smelly stuff we find ourselves in now.

I know he has had zero budget etc, but some of his decisions were beyond ridiculous.

Here's hoping that when I get to Pompey we see a team full of fight with a new man at the helm who is willing to stick pokers up peoples arses.

Thanks for last season Alan, all the best for the future wherever that may be, but I can't really say I'm sorry to see you go because I'm not. If that makes me a horrible person well, so be it.

Even people on the English Riviera are Northerners to you SG. Nothing in your post to suggest you are a horrible person. You feel it is the right decision but have sympathy with a man losing his job and you wish him well for the future. Nothing wrong with that. Good point re Margaret Thatcher though, the behaviour of some after the death of a person was sickening. Still onwards and upwards. I only hope the club do not get pushed into rushing things.

Perhaps a practical test on 'Football Manager' would be in order before the interview process? ;-)

Being a Dartmothian then yes they are, just not sure why you're dragging me into your argument with Scott.

Senile moment? ;P

I am a bit suprised as I really thought he would go a few weeks ago. I actually thought he was a likeable bloke and I wanted him to do well but really it seemed quite obvious we had come to the end of the line.
Being dead and buried in both local derbies with ten minutes to go kind of summed it up really and he had to go.

And if the double act that I have heard will be taking charge is correct we are going down anyway.
