Balls - At least Northampton is off aswell so they can't catch us up and put more pressure on us!
Will have to keep tabs on Rovers V Accy instead as Bury is off too - so at least we are not the only ones!

ALAN KNILL'S YELLOW ARMY !!! - Oh wait ...
I am sort of lost by this - the noises out of the club all day were that the game would be on unless there was heavy rain. It seems by all accounts that the weather has been fine in Torquay for long periods today.
I am just about to go out the door and now apparently the game isn't on after all.
If the pitch is that bad that the first drop of rainfall caused a postponement, then I don't think the powers that be could have been "fairly confident" that the match would be on at all.
I took time off work today - don't know why I bothered really.
Crap pitch, crap team, crap signings, crap public relations, crap everything.

I have been in Torquay for the last week, and I didn't think the weather has been too bad at all.
To read a statement around 1pm saying there are no plans for an inspection and it will take a downpour to postpone the game, then to get home tonight and the game was called off after a 3pm inspection, is very disappointing, and does not reflect well on the Club at all. If I was a Burton fan I would be pretty angry.

there are some Torquay fans who travel quite a way as well (not as far as Burton though, except for Mr P Bastard ), & some of them aren't very amused either. I concur with the disappointment, I turned away work for this evening because earlier reports from the club were very confident. Drat. :B

Thats how it is, game off no point getting on the clubs back, there is seven games off so far tonight, it seems to me some of you are just waiting to have a go at every oppurtunity, do you really think the club is happy with all the money they lose, we are a league 2 club not frigging arsenal.

Club tells fans game will be off is heavy rain arrives.
Heavy rain arrives.
Fans are surprised that game is off.
Torquay United fans, right there in three sentences.

I am just glad I didn't make the trip really - been even worse if I had got there and it was off. I didn't expect the game to be on at all up until today. As a fan I can only go with what the club are telling me. If they were saying they were confident it was going to be on. Heavy rain wasn't forecast and people in Torquay were saying that it had been a reasonable day then from that I assumed that the game would be on.
It does seem a bit bizarre that a short period of rain caused the match to be off. Perhaps the "fairly confident" that the club were putting out should have read "we want the game on,our pitch is shit though, and the first shower we have that will be it"
Club games were on up here at the weekend and the weather has been awful - its fair to say that the pitch is just not up to scratch

I don't think the decision to call this one off was as clear cut as the Northampton one which was perfectly correct given the deluge that occurred later that day.
It appears that our Groundsman was relatively confident that the game would be on earlier in the afternoon, it was called off because the ref was particularly concerned about the area in front of the dugouts.
I think it was just really unfortunate that at the time of the inspection (3pm) we had just had a heavy downpour. If that had been delayed, or indeed the official decided to have another look later in the day, I wonder whether he would have reached the same decision. I am only a few miles away from the ground and can confirm that the weather has been dry and the wind has calmed down significantly since around 3.30pm!

I was expressing my disappointment that the game had been called off, not getting on the club's back. If I won the lottery with a substantial amount I'd buy the Gulls one of those elastic band pitches that the Gargs purloined. Can't see heavy rain from here Matt, I've got a clear view of Berry Head but not round the corner to Plainmoor. Nearly went to the City game, but decided not to give them my money in the end. I've already sent texts to the tweeter I hold personally responsible for tonight's cancellation because he jinxed it earlier in the day.Roll on Saturday.

The Club told the fans the game was likely to go ahead and there were no plans for a pitch inspection. Less than two hours later the game is called off after a pitch inspection. The weather in between could not be described as a downpour by any means.ferrarilover wrote:Club tells fans game will be off is heavy rain arrives.

If the game has to be called off, then fair enough, but telling fans there are no plans for an inspection and the game will only be in doubt in the event of a downpour, for it then to be called off two hours later with no downpour, is going to annoy people who had made plans.
