Hardly standard to wait until 6 hours before the game when there has hardly been a drop of rain in the 24 hours before the postponement is announced and no rain expected in the 10 hours after!

Maybe the groundsman mis-heard the instructions on Monday morning when he got in to work:"prepare the pitch for a hoe down coming up" as 'prepare the pitch for a hose down'! =D

sorry that is utter nonsense

It rained a hell of a lot yesterday! And it did so again last night

Yes it may be sunny today but its no doubt the area along bristows bench which doesn't get much sun if any!

Also it seems Brett Huxtable called it off

A ref from North Devon was going to be in charge of tonights game?

This is not what the Herald express are reporting:
http://www.torquayheraldexpress.co.uk/B ... story.html

The decision was made just after 2pm by North Devon referee Brett Huxtable, who had been called in because Gulls officials were concerned about the effects of recent heavy rain.

“We asked Brett to come down because the match referee, Adam Hopkins (Plymouth), couldn’t get here until 5pm,” said United’s operations manager Tim Herbert.

apparently the Lincoln players' coach was only 90 miles away when they were told; having already been informed that there 'were no issues'. I think our lack of communication is appalling. Feel very sorry for anyone already committed to travelling today. Surely there could have been some indication this morning that there was going to be a pitch inspection ? I've personally lost a day's wages & am not seeing the funny side at the moment to jokes about Cyril Knowles. :-/ :(

Very disappointing, as now I won't be able to get to a game during my week down.

The pitch must have been in a terrible state before, as it's been a glorious day in TQ1. It's unusual to call it off 6 hours before kick off on a day with no rain at all. All eyes are probably on Saturday.

Well PlainmoorRoar, clearly the thunderstorms and monsoons were following you - it was very nice in the Warberries!

The more important point is that if we can not get a game on tonight, then we have no chance for Saturday if what the Club are telling us about the pitch is correct - heavy rain is forecast even for the Warberries for most of the day on Thursday, followed by more rain on Saturday!

They put covers down before the FCUM game and heavy rain over the weekend and into Monday/Tuesday had been forecast,so they could have been used again
To be fair it rained continuously on Sunday-very heavily at times;there were heavy showers yesterday too. Much better today but I wasn't surprised at the postponement.Agree Lincoln should and could have been warned.

I make you right withawhy :) Surely, as you say, there must now be a serious doubt about the game going ahead on Saturday too. Given that Wrexham will be travelling down on Friday for the game, it will be very interesting to see how the club plays this as far as making a decision on that game, and how early they arrange an inspection. I don't imagine Wrexham would relish travelling all the way down on Friday, only have to return home on Saturday and who knows maybe even having to travel down again on Monday ... for a Tuesday rearranged fixture, should that be the outcome.

Mind you, making Wrexham have to travel down for a midweek to play the game might not do our chances of progressing to the FAT Final any harm either! They are already playing some serious catch up in terms of their League fixtures because of the number of replays they had to play in order to progress through the earlier rounds of the Trophy.

Personally I think this is a very poor show by the club. There was no hint whatsoever of any concerns, or indeed of the need for a pitch inspection. On the twitter feed it wasn't announced that there was an inspection taking place - just breaking news that it had been postponed.

Really poor.

I bumped into former site poster Nickgull Sunday, are you going to the Lincoln game he asked me, no point Nick, the game will be off was my answer. My only surprise here, is that some of you are surprised the game is off.

At least you also saw that the weather was bad! I posted even yesterday saying i would be surprised the game would be on, as for covers what we have isn't great!

It rains yesterday so what - the game was indeed called off by Brett Huxtable. Its been a lovely sunny day all day today here and the pitch has improved this year because we have not had a postponement at all despite weather which is far worse than it was yesterday.
I guess that we have made no effort whatsoever to get the game on and the groundstaff have probably done nothing to get the pitch ready.
Man City v Barcelona on the tv, people saving their money till saturday and a postponement which will give us a big advantage on saturday.
Its a great decision for us, fresh players,no injuries and no more suspensions - I think anyone other than PR who thinks "this is purely down to the weather" is a bit mad.
