A couple of ideas. After reading Austrian Andys post another thread thought I would put some thought to this.
Ive said this many times on here but to give my post some background I will state my position again. I live in Basingstoke and therefore do not attend all home games. My attendance has nothing to do with form or how TUFC are doing but due to other circumstances and logistics.
But.... I would like to contribute a bit more to the club. I could of course just send a cheque, BUT I do want some recognition for any support I give. So please give these ideas a thought.
1) A half season season ticket. I havnt worked out the exact percentages etc but even if the season ticket price was just halved and the number of games you can attend is halved too. I would definitely go for this
2) Have a way that fans can make donations. These donations are publicised in the program, on the match day screen and via the tannoy before a game. You could have a sort of league table.
3) A forum which includes fans, a member of the board, Mr Candy. Where the only discussion is how to increase revenue for the club. We need as many ideas as possible and Im sure us fans will have lots. Most wont be goers but a few might just be
4) This one is a bit controversial. But Im going to put it here to be shot down no doubt. There are many fans inc me who don't live in the Bay. I goto matches at Basingstoke and see many good players. If CH could or his staff devise a template that we could fill in while watching matches on players that impress, send it to the club then they could follow up or not. I would suggest only players from lower leagues who look too good. Most of us have been watching football for bloody years and im sure we can spot a player who can control a ball under pressure, make a pass, beat a player and cross a ball. In fact the form should have about 7 of these points, make it simple and only let you submit 1 player from each game you watch so it doesn't get too complicated and too much to read
There we are, a few points to start with, and I bet there are hundreds more if we put our heads together and thought a bit about it.

Neal, I go to watch Basingstoke a few times a season. A couple of years back (when Ashley Bayes captained the team) there was a lad, Sam-Yorke, who stood out. Left to join Cambridge Utd and now at Lincoln.
Now there's a certain Lloyd Macklin in their squad ...!
But agree with you that players worth recommending are out there.
My only immediate concern is that somebody from the club has been to watch Bromley as the £6000 from the next Trophy game is clearly needed.

A that's interesting, let me now next ti you intend to go.
Mackin is mainly used as a sub.
Yes I remember Sam-Yorke. Chris Flood is doing well this season.
It seems to me we have a lot of Torquay fans living all over the place who go to the odd local game where they live, so why not use that to the advantage of TUFC. Wouldn't it be great that someone you recommended got a contract

Thing is the club have tried all the 2 for 1 , b-o-g-o-f deals. You can get pro rata season tickets..
http://www.torquayunited.com/news/artic ... 24180.aspx You can get family tickets as well..
http://www.torquayunited.com/news/artic ... 53355.aspx
End of the day, if the club wants to build a fan base there's only one way to do it, have a successful and competitive team on the field, if the team were to win the next 5 games and cement a play-off place watch the gates go up 300 + promotion back to the league add 50% to your season ticket sales and so on.

Hi Andrew
Sorry me again! I hope that this Board meeting you mentioned is happening soon as I really believe that the Chairman needs to issue her New Year message to map out the Club's direction for 2015 and how the Board can support the manager.
We have a really important FA Trophy game on Saturday with not just the prize money at stake but also the need for a home victory as this forum alone has a lot of supporters' unrest.
Finally, as a suggestion I was reading in the Non-League Paper about clubs which have had a 'pay what you want' match with the result they have had their biggest crowd attendances. Not sure how that works for season ticket holders though. Maybe worth investigating.

Basingstoke did this, I for one paid the original standard price and I guess most did as well

Nick, I totally agree that for some weeks/months now it does feel like we are all passengers on a ship with no captain. This is no personal criticism of Thea but at a time of unrest or disillusionment, it requires a leader to stand up and rally the troops. Look at the publicity generated by 'Delia Smith' when she made her rallying cry on the pitch at Norwich!
It would be reassuring to us all to have some clear direction in terms of the strategy and aspirations for the remainder of the system and to illustrate to fans that the board are desperate to achieve the highest possible finish. This may be only considered as 'lip service' by fans, but it does make a difference.
Here's hoping that we see some action!
Alan.
