Two promotions? What did I miss?
I'm grateful for his getting us back in the League but didn't like the way he left us. 'Tis done now so looking forward. However he was never really popular here despite his achievements because he's just not that likeable. I tried to like him but ultimately those that always said he was a bit of an arse were right.

Oh yeah sorry my mistake, just the one promotion. I still cant get used to being back in Lg2

So did you not like him at all or just after he left, usually horrible but successful managers are liked by their clubs fans (ie Warnock etc.)

He completed the season with you and left, can't see anything wrong with that. Any contact with Rovers wouldnt have been behind your chairmans back or we'd have been reported.

If he'd completed a mid table season and left a couple of days after the last match to join Rovers I don't think the backlash would have been the same from your fans??

just to give you my opinion 1979, i've said many times already my thoughts on Buckle as a manager, and i didn't rate him, but as you rightly say, if a manager brings success, it's easy to paint over the rest. hand on heart though, i never liked him, and never rated him that highly, but at the same time, he did good things for the club, got us back in the football league, and his name will always go alongside that achievement. whether or not another manager would've achieved the same or more, well, we will never know, but i feel his "success" was nothing remarkable given the resources and players at his disposal, particularly when we were in the BSP. but, having said that, i'm sure there are managers who would've failed in similar circumstances, so credit where it's due.

however, i never knew the man personally, but will briefly tell you about the one and only face to face encounter i had with him. My boy was mascot against Bury the season before last, and when me and my son were in reception waiting to be met by the "mascot staff", Buckle was there in the office, 2-3yrds away from us. I said, "Hi Paul, this is James, he's your mascot today", and he just looked at us, nodded, and walked away. I thought that was incredibly rude, but my boy was excited about the day, and being only 7yrs old, the rudeness meant nothing to him, but it just confirmed to me, the opinion i'd already built of Buckle. And the way he left the club, confirmed things even further.

That's just my opinion of him anyway.

I see you've just signed a new GK coach, with Buckle saying you'll be signing another keeper "by the end of the week". Any idea who that might be ??

He applied for your job back in January, you can bet your life that WAS behind our Chairmans back.

He was never widely liked, I met him personally and thought he was a totally arrogant arsehole and told him so. Wait until you actually know him before trying to condemn fans of our Club who do actually know him.

Oh well I suppose it will be better than trollope's excuse which was " we were the better team we were just lacking in the final third" which he said after every match we lost which was quite alot. =D
Lmao. What do you expect from Buckle.
Not to lose many
Enjoy disappointment, do you?

Matt.

Yeah that is a bit poor when your son was mascot. Fully agree there that was out of order.

If he gets results here though, he can be as much of a tosser as he likes. He comes across pretty well on interviews and knows what he wants, so we'll see.

As for the goalkeeping situation, the only name thats been mentioned has been Lance Cronin as back-up.

How has Ling been received down there?? At least you didnt get Ray Graydon

If he applied in Jan he'd have had to get permission, and we couldnt have spoken to him if he didnt have that.

You don't actually 'know' him though do you, just met him once. He had a job to do and for the most part at Torquay he did it, I hope he does the same here. Trollope was too nice and players ran all over him, Penney was too strict and the player rebelled against him, so im hoping he's somewhere in the middle.

I live about 5 mins drive from our training ground so i'm sure ill have a few words with him at some point.

i think most would agree it was a surprise, but he seems to be pretty clued up and knows what he wants/needs, and has everyones support. Shaun Taylor in as assistant has also been well received. Three signings today, so looks like things are coming together. only criticism of Ling so far, is, for some reason, he seems to have a thing about fingers in pies !!

I think his quote about "having enough information in my brain to know...." is the best so far!

So we've essentially got Boris Johnson as our Manager, brilliant!

There is no "if", he DID apply in January and I very much doubt he told Simon Baker anything about it. I "know" him a lot better than you think or care to admit. Would you care to tell me how you can denounce what I said and then state "He had a job to do and for the most part at Torquay he did it"? All you can see is that he got one promotion and fluffed two others so stop talking out of your arse and if you can't accept anything written in response to your delusional posts you've come to the wrong place.
