I would've said much like it was spelt. O-lej-nik.

To be fair, he might be a native Austrian, but that name sounds pretty Polish to me.

Ollie seems decent to me, Boaby sounds rubbish and far too original for us, all the nicknames we give to players end up being ruined second halves of surnames!

Yes you are quite right. it's a Polish surname & is pronounced O-Lay-Nik. For hundreds of years Poland & the Austria/ Hungary
Alliance (Empire) have had immigration arrangements with Poland, & many families have relatives in all 3 countries. Of course it is quite possible that his family have been in Austria for generations & an Austrian pronounciation of his name is now used.

My Polish mate says the J is pronounced.

There's a bloke called Olejnik in our office, and i'm pretty sure he pronounces it O-Lay-Nik.

He would know! I'll be having a word with my friend. Now that I think about it he has a J in his (very long) surname that isn't pronounced... He's had a mare I reckon.

Perhaps it depends on local diallect? Maybe the same name would be pronounced differently in Poland/Austria?

Hi Jerry. Truth is is isn't an Austrian / German name so i am not 100% but i believe it is Czech in origin and pronounced OL-YA-NIK.
