Did anyone notice that the further away the wearer was, the more whiter the shirt looked?
Sat in the Bench, looking towards the Popside, all the new shirts looked white to me. But then again, my eyes are not exactly all that :)

Steve

the same thing happened the last 2 times we had it (as i keep saying). the further away you are the paler it gets. even at a short distance it ends up looking a dodgy cream/magnolia.

and no, it isnt a torquay united shirt.
You are my torquay, my only torquay, you make me happy when skies are grey, you'll never know, just, how much i love you, so don't take my torquay away.

I really like it and like it even more aft seeing it today. The comments on the league two section of Historical kits are a glowing endorsement as well.

Incidentally, I wold much rather we were with Sondico, producing bespoke kits for us, than be one of these poor clubs lumbered with Adidas, puma or Nike, essentially stuck with a team wear template that is the same style as everyone else. Even Premiership clubs have not been able to escape this, so while there have been frustrations at times with Vandanel/Sondico, at least we are not stuck with that awful bat-wings template that s many clubs who have Adidas are stuck with.

i bloody love this forum. :scarf:

it does look smart at a glance, but its just not torquay united, especially not the kit as a whole, sorry everyone.

historical kits = The Gulls have worn some outstanding kits in recent years and here they go again. The home strip was chosen by supporters and is modelled on a favourite from the 90s. Yellow and white really should not work together but in this instance they do, there being just enough navy in the shirt to create contrast. The choice of white shorts and socks rather than navy is a bold one and makes this one of the most distinctive and original combinations to appear this season. Gold star - go to the top of the class.(Chris Connolly)
this was my fear to begin with, especially judging by the last 2 incarnations of the shirt. i still think it doesnt really work, but hey each to their own and i am really, really very glad people are buying it.

who is the guy who wrote this bias piece was it someone from the club or from a torquay supporters group or something?

A gent named Dave Newton runs the site and I believe he is a Plymouth fan. However, he is passionate about the site and it is a wonderful mine of information and it has just mushroomed over the years. He also has a pretty good able on what makes a decent kit and his site www.historicalkits.co.uk and also www.footballshirtculture.com are great for the whole 'culture' around team kits. This year seems especially bad for template kits from Adidas. It seems the 'cheaper' lesser known companies will sometimes produce bespoke kits, although often over detailed with unnecessary swishes and panelling etc but we have been blessed with some reasonable kits since Vandanel took over, a particular favourite being the blue away shirt which white colours and yellow trim from around 2006-2008.

However, because this kit, other than the collar, is almost an exact replica of 1991-93 and 1999-2001 versions, it was easy to get transported back in time and see the likes of West Saunders and Chris Curran etc, playing.

I know it is a long way off, but we cold stay with stripes and just rework aspects of it when this kit is due a change. It does not have to be that when we have yellow and white stripes it has to be exactly the same as 1991.

The irony in this however, is that while we have a bespoke kit, the 1991 original was not bespoke and was a template by Matchwinner. Exeter had a red and white version, Notts County a black and white version (and indeed, our purple away shirt, other than badge and sponsor, was identical to the Notts County away at the time)

oh for gods sake, nnnnooooooo, i bloody well hope not. its going to be bad enough looking at it for the next 2 years.

:slap:

the only thing i have left to cling on to is the fact that in 2015 we might go back to our proper yellow and blue. there is plenty that can be done with that, it is just that the versions we have had have been a bit plain or lacked a decent design.

it says someone called chris connolly wrote the article and reading the write ups on other teams it seems like the verdicts are written by supporters of each team.

the site is great though, ive had a good look through it many times.

Maybe that's because they're so hard to spot in the sun?
Standing in the shade of the popside you could see the colours perfectly, but watching the players during the match showed the shirts to be very 'washed out', there was no way in hell I'd have been able to spot people wearing them all the way over in sunny Bristow's.... Maybe I'm getting old. :'(

Great to see loads of people were wearing the new shirt today and despite some on here saying that white shorts and socks is a no-no, I think it looked great on the players.
Mmmmmm, beeeeeeeer.

I think it's a case of much ado about nothing really. The shirt is really stylish and judging by the amount of fans who seem to have bought one (myself included) then I reckon the club is onto a winner.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

Yes - you maybe are right in Chris Connolly - I'm unsure who is. Yes, I enjoy the site you put the link to as well and this shirt http://www.oldfootballshirts.com/en/tea ... 20777.html is a favourite of mine as it is the one they were wearing when I started watching. I would love to be able to get hold of one of them. i remember a few kids having it when I was at primary school but alas, I never got to get one.

Is there anyone out there over the age of 30 who actually wears their footy shirts when NOT going to a game or NOT in the garden? Just out of interest.
