Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

Never.
Only when attending a match.
Which isn't as often as I'd like.
But will be wearing one tomorrow evening...

i used to wear my torquay or england shirts a lot, even since i turned 30, but im too fat these days, they are all very unbecoming.

i stopped buying them all as well because they have been crap.i prefer a polo top, leisure shirt or t shirt of club or country (they've all got material i can stretch a bit if im having a really fat day).

looks like im going to be 40 (2 years) by the time there might be a torquay home shirt i can actually buy and wear. :|
You are my torquay, my only torquay, you make me happy when skies are grey, you'll never know, just, how much i love you, so don't take my torquay away.

I don't tend to, although I will wear e.g. England or Lions rugby shirt. Very occasionally if I have hold of a shirt of a foreign club e.g. Sparta Prague, I will wear that shirt but I don't tend to wear my Torquay shirt out and about, although I have been tempted to with this new one. Also, I would be more likely to if I lived further away and it had that sort of rarity aspect to it.

I only wear a replica shirt when playing footie or on holiday. I haven't worn one to a game since I was about 18.

Yeah, I like wearing them on holiday, as its often a conversation starter. I wore the 1999 version of yellow and white stripes, the Westward Developments one, to 5 a side tonight, and scored 4 in an 8-8 draw.

well it brought you more luck than it did our 99-01 mob.

The yellow and white stripes, despite being a 'favourite' has actually coincided with 3 relegation struggles out of the four previous seasons we have worn it (although we did wear it at Wembley the night we got promoted in 1991). So it is more likely for aesthetic reasons that it is revered rather than nostalgic and fond memories.

For me it just reflects my fledgling years as a gull, and then the mid teens, where I attended more games than any other time.

just to back up and emphasise hectors point, here is a few little snippets from an early part of the thread -
chunkygull = definitely there is a feeling of rose tinted glasses for some because of the 91" play off final. don't forget though the following year it was our home shirt and we were relegated. the year after that we were poor also.

when the kit got ressurected about 12 years ago im sure we had a rubbish time as well.wasn't it the home shirt during the season we had our last day "great escape" at barnet.

chunkygull = as stated before, we had one good day in that shirt, a play off final won on penalties. the 4 seasons wearing it as i recall were a relegation, lower half finish, 3rd from bottom, very low finish.dont remember too many good old days, only one, only just.a great day though nonetheless.

im not saying it is a valid arguement not to have the shirt because we had four dire seasons wearing it.im not talking about being superstitious or anything like that. the point being made is some people are more or less saying we should have G because "we had great times when we had that kit", "the good old days in the 90's" and "oh yeah lets have a retro kit".
we did not have great times with that shirt.one great night(i was there).four dreadful seasons to be fair.so nostalgia/rose tinted glasses as some are looking at it is not really a good reason to have the kit. retro or not.

It is often linked with our promotion play-off victory at Wembley against Blackpool but sadly, what followed was a dreadful season, in what is now League 1, where Impey was sacked early on (but too late in my view), Wes Saunders was caretaker for most of the season and then Ivan Golac took over when we were virtually already down. The season after, in the same kit, we nearly went down again, with the even worse Paul Compton as manager, until Neil Warnock saved the day.
