I wouldn't go as far as to say we are going to p*ss the league. We all thought that last time we were down here and we had 6 horrendous years and almost went out of the league altogether.

It is going to be a completely new squad with at least 8 new players in the starting line up, so it all depends on how it gels.

But with Jamie Cureton imminent, and Izale Mcleod and Ashley Grimes heavily rumoured aswell, I certainly expect us to be in the top 7.

I dont know anything about Stanley to be honest, apparently he is a "Free Kick specialist"? and has a great range of passing?. It looks like he is highly rated by Gulls, What are his strengths?

Please dont have a go, and call me patronising, I just want to find out a bit more about Stanley.

I'm gutted about Stanley and I'm going to be even more gutted because I can just see Brano, Zeb maybe even Eunan gone as well. We can say now (in my eyes anyway) that us and Rovers are quite big rivals, I find it all a bit "cheeky" about how Rovers approached Bucks and now to rub it in sign our players. But there s no time to panic at the moment. When the new manager is appointed and starts signing a few players we'll soon forget about Bucks and Stanley etc and look on to the season ahead.

Theres nothing cheeky about it, how many managers do you see go to a new club and take some players and staff; the only player so far being an out of contract keeper many of you don't seem to rate, as the other one was never your player anyway.

The choice of Torquay or Bristol Rovers is a no brainer anyway, 2.6k fans every week compared to 6-7k (more if we do well) plus there must be a big gap in wages Rovers can offer.

TBH only saw you once on the play off final but didnt rate that many players so I hope Buckle has bigger targets now.

Of course not, but to get automatic promotion, which im sure is our aim, we would need more additions that maybe Buckle was unable to afford last season.

didn't take long i guess.

another player with links to torquay signs for Rovers, and you can't wait to come on, reminding us how small and insignificant we are. thanks a bunch.

some of the rovers fans have come on here and genuinely contributed to the threads, and are welcome to do so. however, don't come on here with your big boll*x attitude and expect to be welcomed. we're going through an uncertain few days, we don't need the likes of you pointing and laughing. but we're optimistic for the coming few days, get a decent manager in, few new players of our own, so you might just not be much bigger and better than us come the opening day of the season.

You saw us play, how many times,..... oh yeah ONCE and you are a good enough foottball scout to make a accurate assesment, of our players, on that ONE veiwing. A season is played out over 46 games. Remind me again where BR finished and where Torquay finished, in their respective divisions. To save you the time and trouble here it is.

BR. P 46 W 11 D 12 L 23 F 24 A 47. Points 45 Finished in 22nd place
TU. P 46 W 17 D 18 L 11 F 38 A 31. Points 68 Finished in 7th place. (Yes, play off position)

So, to recap the players that you don't rate:

Won 6 more games that the BR team
Drew 6 games more that the BR team
Lost 12 games fewer than the BR team
Scored 14 goals more than the BR team
Conceded 16 goals less than the BR team
Collected 23 points more than the BR team (Actually that should be 24 more, as we had 1 point deducted, but we wont argue over that)
Finished 15 places higher than the BR team

Oh, and didn't get relegated.

Agree, Stanley obviously wanted to play for Buckle so why people think the board could have have affected his decision is beyond me. Lets move on...its only one player and our new manager will be able to recruit his own players in due course.

in fact, goals scored was 74 for us, 48 for them, difference of 26.
goals conceded was 53 for us, 82 for them, difference of 29.

so our GD was +21, theirs -34.

Why are you comparing records for two different divisions??

We were awful last season which explains the amount of managers we had and the relegation.

I'd want us to finish higher than 7th next season, so we have to look at better players.

Maybe if more of you could be bothered to watch your team you might have money to keep/buy players........

Dont come on here and give it the billy big b*llocks.

A few Gasheads have come on here and spouted the same drivel. It is making us look bad.

We are League 2 mate, and as such need to look at League 2 players, what makes you thinkthat we should be looking at better players?

I am pleased Sir Jamie Cureton looks like he is coming back, but he is the only player that we are looking at that has any pedigree at a higher level, and he is nearly 36.

Dont mug yourself off.

Also yes we have more supporters than Torquay, and are a "bigger" club, but we aint Real Madrid mate.

And yes we have the potential to entice people to come through the turnstiles, if we are succesful and the exciting news about the new stadium looks promising.

But our support is worse than Torquay's in comparison, If you compare the size Of Bristol to Torbay, and then compare the 2 teams attendances, then the percenatge of people that turn up at PlainMoor is better than ours.

Please stop it.

Anyway Gulls, What can we expect with Stanley? Which was my original question. Is he a "Free kick specialist" and is his passing top notch?

What you'll get from Craig is a hard working, honest midfielder. He can play simple passes (normally sideways), but the main benefit we got from him was a calm and experienced head in our young midfield. Our youngsters noticeably missed him during our first half debacle at OT.

Craig can tackle and he always puts in a shift and this is why he became popular with the fans. He knows the limits of his own game and plays within these - doing the simple things right and rarely putting a foot wrong.

Won't score you a lot of goals and you won't see glorious assists but every team needs one.
