A bit like the russian e.g AKINFEEV the keeper is pronounced AKINFEYEV so the E acts like a Y sound.

Hi Jerry. Truth is is isn't an Austrian / German name so i am not 100% but i believe it is Czech in origin and pronounced OL-YA-NIK.
Actually it seems quite likely that it's Slovak in origin, though might be part Ukrainian as well, as olej means oil (and the name means something along the lines of someone who works with oil). There's also a variant of it spelt Oleynik. Both spellings are pronounced oh-LAY-nick.

Name isn't Russian based and is more likely Czech/Slovak than Ukrainian.

So is "Boaby" Olejnik going to be called "Ollie" or not ?
Every time he makes a breathtaking save will he be greeted with :
"OLE ! OLE OLE OLE ! OL-LIE ! . . .OL-LIE ! . . . "
I'll get me coat . . .

Have checked with the natives and it's Czech. Pronounced "Oh-Lay-Nick".

It's also a Polish name, much the same as Jones is a Welsh name, but there are loads of people that are English called Jones. This is what happens when there is freedom of movement across boarders .
In any case I expect the Herald Express will interview him at some stage & ask him how he pronounces his name. :~D

I see he has today been released by Exeter.
Wonder if Nicho can persuade him to return?

I saw the ''Olejnik signs' thread & in forgetting what the club has become, for a split second, I thought something else.
Back to reality, it's an old post.

Maybe we could loan him for the season - cover half his wage with a caveat to allow Exeter to recall him should both their goalkeepers suffer injuries. Better than the one keeper set up we currently employ. He could double up as Brendan's coach/mentor.

Whilst the club appear to be have to be 'imaginative' with their engagement of a second goalkeeper; as things stand right now they don't even possess a first choice one.
Seemingly the only National League club that cannot/will not employ enough keepers to be able to put one on the bench, it is a strange and highly unsatisfactory situation. With no development team with which to give that second keeper any match time, they are again unique amongst National League teams and we need to remember that this is the fifth tier of English football and they are purporting to be professional ~ well since the last little fella went back to the rock in the Med ~ totally unused and seemingly unwanted after wasting his time here ~ we haven't even had so much as stuffed toy to masquerade as a sub goalkeeper!

Come on Merse. Haven't you seen Gilbert "The Cat" limbering up between the sticks, and saving (?) a barrage of penalties from a cohort of 9-year-olds? What's to worry about?

Even Dorchester town have managed to sign Chris Weale in goal, he would have been a decent signing.
