Yep got away with one there thanks to the far side lino being off the pace.

We won ,not sure how , but I will take it, with better finishing they could have had four, we like to pass but worthing gave us a masterclass in how to accomplish that function first half. I doubt we will see a better footballing side than last nights visitors this season. Considering what a unit Hamon is why does he not control his six yard box and batter anything that comes within ten yards it would take the stress off the central defenders.
I lost count of the times Wotton was screaming close him down, that is basic football 101 and should not have to be constantly shouted at supposed pro footballers but we continued to give worthing the freedom of plainmoor especially in the first 45.
4-3-3 may not be the managers preferred style of play but is a much more stable platform at our level considering the team we have, Mussa and WJD made the difference last night and WJD should be the first name on the sheet in my book , his brain operates on a far higher level than the rest of his colleagues.
We badly neeed some pace and guile added to the squad, Cooke is now one game away from a ban, and the ash/seymour combo is a definitie no no, they must be aware that regardless of how poorly they perform they will take it in turns to start because simply put we have no other options.

If you were standing in the right position, ie. halfway along the Pop side from the Ellacombe end, it was obvious that their scorer of the second 'goal' was miles offside, when the ball was played to him. Everyone who was standing there could see that, and the crowd reacted accordingly. The lino was nowhere near in line, but he caught up and realised his mistake, flagging before the goal was scored.
I thought Worthing's approach work was excellent. If they could have been better finishers on the night we would have lost that one, notably the mixup between our goalie and the centre back. How their forward didn't score from that mistake I'll never know. Worthing played like I would like to see us play. Slick passing, all balls on the deck. No straining up to try and reach it with your head. Their goal came from a flowing movement with the ball being passed at ground level. It was therefore easy for the scorer to strike the ball as he did. Mussa's goal was similar, ball kept low in the build up. He didn't have to control it much before he hit it. Yes we had lots of high crosses into the box, but how many did our forwards win of those - none. Except for the winner, but that wasn't scored by one of our forwards. Great technique of a corner that Mussa took for that one.

Their second 'goal' was light years onside. Very poor call by the assistant who was reffing in the South Devon league only a few years ago.....and wasn't very good there either.

This is the moment of the pass with the β€˜scorer’ on the right - clearly onside.

We need to get out of this league asap as that lino will probably be reffing in it next season.

Everyone in the ground apart from that poster above knew he was well onside. Bad decision, mostly it seems because the lino hadn't kept up with play.

If it had stood, wonder if the same player would have put that late chance away instead of putting it wide.

Definitely onside and not even close. You could have been standing in Plymouth and still seen it.

Specsavers for The Eternal Optimist.
