Quite a formidable forward line on paper, but they can't all play at once ! What's their defence like ? Time will tell of course, but this sounds more like Rushden & Diamonds than, say, Crawley.PlainmoorRoar wrote:Even with that investment, with those crowd level and season tickets about half the price of ours i feel there is a level of overspend

True Tomo, all i know about their defense is Chris Todd, tomogull wrote: Quite a formidable forward line on paper, but they can't all play at once ! What's their defence like ? Time will tell of course, but this sounds more like Rushden & Diamonds than, say, Crawley.

Jai Reason is a central midfielder. IIRC, he played for Cambridge against us in the Wembley play-off final. Think he was a rumoured transfer target of ours the following close season. Clearly has an eye for goal of recent.PlainmoorRoar wrote:Even with that investment, with those crowd level and season tickets about half the price of ours i feel there is a level of overspend

Midson got released by Wimbledon - so one would assume they didn't want him. Whether he would have been a good signing for us who knows? - that probably will depend on who we sign or don't sign really.
Constable and Midson won't make Eastleigh a team of world beaters either - particularly if they have Chris Todd at the back - no disrespect to him, good bloke thats for sure but he was found out big time whne he was here before so at 32 he is hardly going to be any better.
If they have a bigger catchment area then us - well the fans are not really buying into it at the moment. 700 for league games and an increase of 300 for the play offs.
Its not a case of laughing at them- but really if their ground has some fantastic facilities then the picture doesn't portray that.
Torringtons ground is better.

I said the exact same thing on the Non League FB page. Will they attract many Saints fans if they do well? Dreaming Of Promotion ..
So if Midson was one of our 'paper talk targets', talked of in an effort to boost season-ticket sales, it is not going to boost the take-up if we see ourselves getting outbid by a team like Eastleigh. I realise they are a progressive club, perhaps with a bit of money behind them, but they are still bloody Eastleigh and that only serves to show how miserable our existence could be, if we cannot even compete with a team that gets gates of 700.

You've failed to apportion sufficient weight to the money being given by their Board. They get 700, but have the finances of a club getting 5000 every week. So effectively, we're getting outbid by Bristol Rovers, which we knew would happen anyway.

I think CH is showing exceptional tactical awareness of intelligence service proportions by constantly leaking names of players we are interested in to ensure the dross are then quickly snapped up by our Conference rivals, leaving us to pick up the quality that is left at the end of the summer squad forming period at a knock down pricehector wrote:So if Midson was one of our 'paper talk targets', talked of in an effort to boost season-ticket sales, it is not going to boost the take-up if we see ourselves getting outbid by a team like Eastleigh. You have failed to apportion sufficient weight to this. It's not a few quid from down the back of the sofa, it's tens of thousands of pounds a month. Back-of-an-envelope calculations suggest that Thea would have to chuck over £1,000,000/year into the pot to give us a similar boost, pro rata by our respective attendances.hector wrote:So if Midson was one of our 'paper talk targets', talked of in an effort to boost season-ticket sales, it is not going to boost the take-up if we see ourselves getting outbid by a team like Eastleigh. Unfortunately we could have said the same about Crawley.

I realise that - my point it is still Eastleigh. That's how depressing it is, that, with ease (because of financial backing) a team not much bigger than Bideford can outbid us for players.ferrarilover wrote: You have failed to apportion sufficient weight to this. Its all getting a bit silly,I guess many people think that there is too much money in the premier league and the likes of Yaya Toure getting upset because someone forgot his birthday dispite getting two hundred thousands pounds a week is ridiculous,I think he is a tremendous player but now but now I think he has the mental age of nine. Now this mentality has drifted down to our level, not for the first time I agree but if Eastleigh won promotion through good management and tactics, bought well from lower league sides I would say well done but it seems that they have a sugar daddy who is throwing money at the team, whether this is sustainable heaven knows.Should it be allowed, who knows,is it fair, who can say its not,am I jealous, properly, all I do know is that money is ruining our game and that the playing field is certainly not level.

Having written the above I must admit that there is a natural progresion in life, nothing stays the same,I now have a TV,computer ,washing machine and god knows what,as a kid I had a football and at home a wireless so thank goodness everything changes, who remembers Torquay playing Grimsby,Southport,Darlington,Wrexham,Aldershot,Bradford p a,Workington, Gateshead,Barrow,Chester,Halifax,Lincoln,Stockport.
So you see teams come and teams go,new teams like Crawly,Stevenage,Fleetwood,Burton and the most successful Peterbourgh have stayed in the league,I only hope Torquay get back as soon as possible and do not become permanently down amongst the dead men .Good luck to Eastleigh, but not too much..
