Certainly a bit harsh on Kevin Blackwell I think. A couple of seasons ago he was only a Play off final win (lost to Burnley) from being a Premier league Manager with Sheffield Utd, now he's not good enough to manage a League 2 side with gates of 3,000.

All immaterial as I expect the Bruce Rioch/Roy Keane partnership to be announced formally by early next week.

If Rioch was to be offered the job then a player coach would be needed. Alex Russell? Done his coaching bits and has been offered a playing contract with Yeovil in a higher league than us. Normally I dont like players of his ilk returning but under someone like Rioch could be a very entertaining team. If not then offer it to Branston but unfortunately I think he will be moving into a flat in Bristol soon...

There is the link to the Nicky Forster story. Wouldn't mind if he got it to be honest. Although it does look like he is applying for anything going at the moment.

Forster is the stand-out candidate for me. A realistic option with no obvious drawbacks (that I can think of anyway?)

Fozzy was an unbelievable player in his day, one of them you pay the entrance fee just to watch him. Cracking bloke as well, would thoroughly endorse the Fors joining

i think that mcillroy would be a quality signing. he has a proven track record at both macc and morecambe both on a shoestring budget and with the quality of players in our squad then he could do more than a decent job.

I'm up for a bit of Rioch with Hargreaves as assistant. couple of years of that, Hargreaves learn the ropes then take over.

Surely he'd just want to interview people, shoot AXA commerticals and avoid men with Emus?

I have mentioned Forster on some other posts over the last few days.
Anyway, lets not put ourselves down. We just might be able to attract a player/manager of the ilk of Phillips etc...Lets face it, these days ex prem/championship players have made a few quid and are after a piggy back on to the managerial ladder - thats were we come in. £50-60k a year is neither here nor there for them. They just want to get on the ladder. That said it would be a massive gamble to appoint someone unproven as dosh down here is obviously tight. What about somebody like a John Collins? Managed Hibs and has been managing in Belgium also (where I used to live - hence my user name!). He is out of work and desperate to get back on the ladder. After all, Lge 2 is better than the SPL, Rangers/Celtic apart. He also fits in the "made loads of dosh so salary unimportant" category!!

It's not just about salary though. I wonder where John Hollins lives? Would he want to uproot his family at this stage of his life? Because i doubt he'd want to live out of a suitcase.

I hope we do what we did when we got Bucks - he was something of a specialist in the division we found ourselves, so knew about not only useful transfer targets but the opposition. What does Kevin Phillips know about League 2 i wonder? Employing someone like him might grab a few headlines on Sky Sports News, but would it be the sensible option? Not for me.
