I thought Seabiscuit was a rather boring film. I much preferred Champions. Even though I have no interest in horseracing, this was a moving and inspiring film.

I rarely go to the cinema these days, not for a few years now, for the simple reason that the sound levels were far too high, and were hurting my ears. Why should we be bombarded with deafening sound when we spend good money to watch a film? With the advent of HD home cinema, I cannot see cinemas surviving for much longer if they continue such mistaken treatment of patrons; and this is quite apart from what is, for the most part (there are always rare exceptions), the presentation of dumbed-down juvenile content aimed at youngsters and the more intellectually challenged audiences.

Great point Mick. I had not been for a good few years until only recently and when the showings came on the noise nearly blew my head off! It took a lot of getting used to and to be honest it was really uncomfortable. It was ok in the quiet bits but any explosions or action scenes and you're in trouble. I'm nid 30's so wouldn't say I was an old git yet with sensitive hearing but the main reason my 4 year old puts up a stink not to go is because she says it is far to loud for her, it hurts her ears. Do cinema's have to adhere to noise decibel levels? I would presume they do and they MUST be breaking these regulations?
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

I did once complain to a cinema manger, who said that the noise levels were within the required limits (I didn't believe him, but how could I prove otherwise?); he also said that the advertisers required the cinema put the sound levels up to the maximum possible within the limits.

I feel that local authorities should carry out checks without cinemas' knowledge, and prosecute if necessary. Otherwise they should review noise levels to see if permitted levels are really too high. Are the people who decide these things put under undue pressure by industry lobbyists?

It would be interesting to find out what other cinemagoers think about this, and what proportion of them have stopped going to cinemas as a result of intolerable sound levels.

Young Frankenstein's on now. If you've never seen it put it on Sky Greats. Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, Peter Boyle.

Absolute classic from Mel Brookes.

2 other films where the storylines centred around horses that i really enjoyed and thought were really good are Hidalgo and War Horse.neither of which is usually my sort of thing but both were really good entertainment and good stories. War Horse brought a bloody tear to my eye I tells ya. :'(

Oh and yeah i couldnt watch it tonight because i had to keep popping out to work, but young frankenstein is bloody brilliant, as is blazing saddles by mel brooks (love that film).

crikey, they repeated Champion the wonder horse when I was a kid in the 80's, i remember one night i couldnt get that bloody theme tune out of my head and i couldnt sleep.

we once upon a time also had the old black and white lone ranger stuff, his horse silver was the star.

jim diamond had a number 1 hit in 1986 with the song hi ho silver, the theme tune from Boon.

we also had Black Beauty. reminds me of the black horse in the lloyds bank adverts.

but the king of all horses in films and tv was Trigger with his faithful companion the "king of cowboys" roy rogers.

Top, top programmes, better than all the Peppa Pig crud these days.

Film-wise, this week have seen Ironman 3 (is it 3? The latest one?) which was great, I stayed awake right to the end. Stardust was on tv, one of my favourite films - men can watch it as it's not too loved up, has some really funny bits and has Michelle Pfieffer looking foxy.

Stardust? Which one? Theres the David Essex follow up to That'll be the day, a 1998 sci fi B film or the one with Di Niro in it?

The one with Di Niro in it, Beardy, I'd forgoten about the David Essex one (he could go on my Borderline Boilers list, mmmmm).

Was very excited to record The Dead Zone the other night - remember loving that film, always really rated Christopher Walken as a result of seeing him in it. However, just watched it and what a huge disappointment...some films never date, but DZ most definitely has. How is it stuff like Rambo (hey, Sly Stallone, mmmm) can be eternally brilliant but others are just pants after a decade or so?

watched EARTHBOUND starring rafe spall this evening. about a bloke who grew up thinking he is an alien whose dad escaped with him to earth from another planet which was at war.

a few twists and a romance, but, for gods sake, here in britain we are bloody $h1t at making these sorts of films, low budget, lack of location, lack of charisma, it just never works.

i cant believe rafe spall gave up making pete vs life to make b0ll0cks like this. 4/10. :(

i have been trying to work my way through the silver linings playbook, its took quite a few attempts over 3 days so far, im going to need matchsticks to prop my eyes open at this rate. yet again arty farty claptrap that the critics rave about and the oscars love and "oh, we must all watch it". :-/

im only just halfway through it and its just not looking good at the moment that i might actually finish it. its a shame because i had high hopes for it (hype as usual), i like bradley cooper, its got bobby deniro in it, its nice to see chris tucker in something again (been too long), jennifer lawrence looks an absolute babe in it, i just cant get into it though. :|

i know these arent new films and i have seen them both hundreds of times but because its that time of year and the weather is awful i have hibernated today and have actually managed to watch a few dvds. i havent watched either of these for a few years and they are still as good as the first time -

snatch - still a good, funny, entertaining film. i was sat there laughing and well entertained, even though i knew what was coming. i found myself reciting the dialogue as it happened and just laughing out loud. 9/10

blazing saddles - classic comedy from mel brooks and the same as above. 9/10
(no its not racist, if you think it is, then you obviously dont get it)

i still havent got through the silver linings playbook. :|

finally just finished silver linings playbook, well it took some getting through. i think one reason it took so long is that i kept getting disturbed and didnt sit down and watch it properly at first, so it was hard to get in to, even giving it my full attention was hard enough. :-|

it was a bit long in places, a bit boring, some dialogue was good, it was meant to deal with mental health issues and other life problems and allsorts of stuff, not too sure if they succeeded in what they were trying to acheive. :|

i cant knock the acting or the great cast, they were all bang on. jennifer lawrence was lookin' rather attractive as well as the fact she is a good actress, bradley cooper, chris tucker, robert de niro, all on song. :-D

it had its moments near the end, it was a definite slow burner (very slow). it just didnt work for me, i dont mind that sort of think, but i dont think i would buy it even when its a quid at a car boot sale. i will be kind because it is obviously somebodys cup of tea, but not mine, i do like the cast though so its going to get a 5/10
