Matt.
Obviously did very little wrong which is praise indeed for a Centre Half!

I would be interested to know the career history of the last player to represent TUFC after coming up through the youth system (J. Benefield). Can anyone oblige?

I was a bit confused by that Benefield stat. Didn't MattHockley come through our youth system? And he definitely started games in our first spell in the conference.

I'm obviously wrong but if someone could tell me why that would be great.

Isn't it about players coming through the youth set-up who started a game in the ist team. Matt Hockely must have made his debut before Benefield.

Hahaha! I obviously meant our first season in the conference. Hopefully I haven't cursed us to return to that level... :-/

Of interest to me are local amateurs (today known as non - contract players) who have made a starting début for the TUFC first team.

In the Dave Webb era :red: (oops, sorry about the four letter words  ) there were several. Two players who spring to mind are Mark "Smudger" Smith (son of former player Harry Smith) and Gary Wright. In my opinion, two excellent local players who stepped up to the plate to play League football.

I also remember from the early 1970's, centre half Len Jackson (an insurance salesman who played regular in the Western League for TUFC) making a full début.

Reminds me of a wedding I attended where the bride introduced the groom: 'This is my first husband.'

I feel ok this morning but my mum who was going to babysit is ill so i can't go to Vale Park. Gutted, i've even thought of taking my 3 and a half year old daughter with me but it might be too much for her and she'll probably want to go after 5 minutes! Sorry to let you guys down and i'll have to wait for the Rotherham game in two weeks.

Andy . . . it might be a Marmite moment : she'll either like it or loath it.

Take with you lots of treats and a flag to fly/horn to blow and she may revel in it.

Then again she might fall asleep.

I remember Len Jackson well from those days Trojan. Excellent centre back and I played alongside him numerous times for both Newton Abbot Spurs and Torquay. I believe 1969/70 was his main season in our Western League team. I can't remember him ever getting on the pitch with our first team but I do have a vague memory of him travelling with the first team for an away league game as either substitute or 13th man (as they used to have in those days of only one substitute in case of injury or illness on the trip). No mean feat as an amateur as we were one of the better third division (league one) teams then.
