He was the reason Argyle stayed up when he initially joined the club on loan from Palace. Scored crucial goals and was the main man to stop them dropping down to the Conference. I don't know why but it seems he has lost his way since and hasn't been able to repeat the promise and form he showed in his first spell at the club and has had a number of teams in recent years. Fingers crossed Owers et Al can revive his career. A player full of tricks, skill and flair; on his day he's a joy to watch. Here's hoping.

At 25, this is last chance saloon for him.

If he's joining Torquay United, you'd have to imagine very few offers are on the table for him to remain full time in English football.

He has talent, hence why Arsenal, Blackburn, Liverpool, Leicester & Crystal Palace all signed him up at some stage. His loan spell at Plymouth was impressive too!

But to counter that, it's never worked out for him anywhere on a long term basis. Wycombe liked what they saw and released him without many opportunities. Same for Crawley Town & Woking (who shipped him out 12 months into a 2 year deal this summer.)

A kick up the arse or an arm around the shoulder, or a hard look at where his career is headed may be needed for him. I hope he gets that fire in his belly, applies himself, delivers consistency and fires us to promotion. Or else it's part time football for him in 12 months time.

Listening to his move on OS he fills me with no confidence.

Let the guy have a ball at his feet before judgments are made.

Having just seen some of the goals he scored for Plymouth etc (on YouTube), he deserves a chance at TQ1, here's hoping it works out for him and the new team.....

Think Banton could be a good signing for Gulls,my concern is that he's injury prone, let's hope we can get him fit and firing on all cylinders, trouble is,I don't want to get hammered for saying this,Nicho got slatted for signing crocks, yet Owers so far has got 3 in,who come to us with patchy form/injury doubts..Then again,is this the market we are now selecting from. Not an Owers fan at all,but it's a bloody hard job he's got on his hands.

Having read Wokings forum it's clear they were glad to see back for him even before we even signed him
Clearly a risk and not a coup.

Could end being a good gamble or a total flop

What has he been playing with for the last few seasons?

If it walks like a duck..................

I'm not sure why Owers thinks that signing ex league journeymen with a history of being shipped out by other clubs is the way forward. Partly the reason why York found it difficult last season in NLN was because they were obsessed with signing ex league players just because they WERE ex league players and like that somehow meant they were going to be better than everybody else in the league. As we saw, they didn't even make the play offs despite having one of the biggest budgets.

IMO Owers needs to look at solid, experienced players already at NLS level and perhaps enhance the team by the odd quality signing of an ex league player or two with the right attitude and application. Asa Hall doesn't look too bad an aquisition on the face of it but Banton et al? No thanks.

Signing a gamut of last chance saloon ex league players will only end one way i'm afraid IMO.

It is quite clear that Owers does have a difficult job on his hands but it's all of his own making really.

To a degree perhaps but Owers did have links with Banton when both were at Plymouth and when Banton had a purple patch. Maybe Owers can unlock the potential again?
