Surely you're allowed to give a zero.

Old hands will remember the 1967-68 season. So don't count any chickens yet.

That's not the question.

But I would have rated the 87/88 season ten out of ten because even though we missed out on promotion it was the first time as a spectator that I saw Torquay as genuine contenders.
This is a good season regardless because it shows, as did 87/88, if you have the right manager then success is obtainable. So I would rate this season as ten out of ten.

Alas I was 5 that season so have no memory of it.
Being the only? Full time team in the division we should expect better than we have seen recently.
We should be ahead by at least a few points instead of goal difference.
However 8/10 so far for me

When Johnson took over we were in 14th place and 10 points behind leaders Woking after just nine games. Since then in 23 league games Johnson has achieved a win percentage of 74%. If Johnson's current record was extrapolated over the whole 32 games played so far we would be on 75 points, nine ahead of Woking.
I fail to see how this record can be criticised. If promotion isn't achieved this season it will largely be down to events before Johnson arrived.

Extrapolated ...... good word, Plainmoor78. But I doubt that Torquay4eva will understand it.

Yes I do agree to a certain extent. After 3 terrible seasons we nearly did the impossible. I would say though Stuart Morgan still played a part in the upturn in that very season. He signed lee Sharpe , Paul Dobson, got mark loram back, jim mcnichol and a few others. Cyril came in and added a few hard men , Phil Lloyd and Dave Caldwell to name two.
We could and should of got promoted really as with a few games to go we were in a great position.
Some comparisons possibley like you say with this season. A manager with the knowhow and with A little addition those gems shine

I don't understand the hate I seem to be getting. :red:
It was a simple question.

Interesting comment on Cyril's signings of 'hard men'. Ever since the days of 'The Beast' (the great Colin Bettany) I have advocated the presence of a hard man in the team - not necessarily for footballing skills but mainly for putting the fear of God in to the opponents. Not having seen United in the flesh (as it were ) for five seasons I wonder if there is a hard man in the squad at the moment.

Not trying to start a sub thread but what player from the past. A player which has that fear factor or just hard threat.in my experience it will be Phil Lloyd. N0 nonsense
