Torquay v Shrews 1st leg

Post by Loggerheads »

Shrews fan here, well done on reaching the playoffs. How confident are you, would you have preffered Accy or Stevenage?

On our last 2 occasions we were the 7th placed team and won through by winning the away leg, I actually think it is better to be home first for that reason. Anyway roles are reversed this time so hope we put in a better performance than our last visit to plainmoor.

From my own view, we only had a chance of playing Shrewsbury or Accrington. Stevenage were irrelevant. Of the two I am DELIGHTED we've got Shrewsbury. Clearly you're a decent side the two showings against Torquay aside, but mainly us on a crap pitch = no chance. Knew we wouldn't win today because of that and was simply banking on Chesterfield doing the business, which thankfully they did. Had we got Accrington unless we won the first leg 4-0 or something (unlikely) I wouldn't have given us a prayer going up to their cowfield and needing to win. As it is, we're playing a team who we were by far the better side against in the away game, won the home game 5-0 and will play on 2 decent surfaces. No fear, nothing to lose and everything to gain. Bring it on.

As Royal says, the game at the Greenhous Meadow in October, we played magnificently and should have won. I'm sure if we are going to you with an advantage there will be 1500 or so there.

Buzzing.

Fairly confident, two matches on decent pitches against, with the greatest reverence, a team who we have torn apart once at home and been unlucky not to beat away (useless NW missed a pen, for a start)
It won't be easy, of course it won't and which ever side progresses to the final will have played well and beaten a decent side.

He'd blaze it into the away end, just like he did in October.

He was Wroe's replacement and it's chalk and cheese. One can pass, tackle and drive a team forward...the other is Nicky Wroe.

Wroe did an excellent job for the club in the main but is very much the past and since he's gone we're a much better side. I'd even prefer the two young lads Oastler and Lathrope.

Except today where, I'm told by a Shrews fan, NW was pretty good and hit the bar and both JOastler and, to a lesser extent, DL were frigging useless.

replacement is a strong word when it was a loan deal thats finished.

and there is no absolute guarantee that stanley will return.

First season in the league Matt. Both young boys they aren't going to be great every week, Wroe was no better than them (apart from Wycombe away) and was supposed to be a senior player.

They'll both get a lot better, big fan of the pair of them especially Lathrope.

I think there is a good chance he'll return, he was Wroe's replacement for this season, maybe for the future maybe not. Regardless it was another correct decision from our useless manager, he certainly did 'sort it out' when allowing Wroe to move on.
