[OS] NEXT UP | Aveley (H) | 24/02/24 (3pm KO)

United return to Plainmoor this weekend when Aveley are the visitors. Aaron Downes will take charge of his first game as interim manager, when his side face Aveley in what will be tough test against the Play-Off chasing Essex side. Who’s the boss? Danny Scopes is the former Concord Rangers manager that led the then National League South club to the FA Trophy Final in 2021, though before that he assisted the Cowley brothers at the Beachboys prior to his appointment as Manager in 2019. Scopes was appointed manager of Aveley in November 2021, and last season led them to the National League South for the first time in their history, after finishing 4th in the Isthmian Premier League before beating Canvey Island 4-2 on penalties in the Play-Off Semi Final, and then Hornchurch 1-0 in the Final to clinch promotion. Player to watch Charlee Hughes was Brentwood and Maldon & Tiptree top goalscorer in back to back seasons with 20 in 33 for The Blues and 30 in 45 games for The Jammers earning him a move to National League side Wealdstone. The move to the Stones only lasted one season and saw the striker return to Maldon & Tiptree until he made the move to Hemel Hempstead in December 2021. Hughes joined the Miller in the summer of 2023 and so far this season has scored nine league goals for Aveley including what proved to be the winner against United back at the start of September How have they been doing? Since their 2-1 victory over United Aveley have continued to thrive in the National League South, though they only won one of their next five league games following that result. However a 4-1 victory away at Havant & Waterlooville towards the end of October began a four match winning streak which was then ended by a 3-0 defeat at Bath City. That defeat started a nine match winless run for the Essex club that was ended at the end of 023 as they beat Dover 2-1. Since the turn of the year Aveley have lost only one of their last nine league games with their last outing seeing them beat Play-Off contenders Maidstone United 2-0 on Monday night, meaning Aveley come into this game with 15 wins, seven draws and eleven defeats, and are in 9th place with 52 points from 33 games.   Tickets for tomorrow’s match are available HERE, whilst full live commentary will be available via TUFC Radio HERE.The post NEXT UP | Aveley (H) | 24/02/24 (3pm KO) first appeared on Torquay United.
