Torquay United has confirmed that Austen Booth has received a 9 month playing ban, imposed at an FA Regulatory Commission disciplinary hearing today. The ban was imposed due to Misconduct under FA Rule E1.2 in respect of 289 bets placed on football matches between 05 August 2017 to 07 July 2021, and relates to when Austen was employed by previous clubs. Austen, who admitted all charges and was supported by the Club throughout the process, is now prohibited from engaging in football or football related activity for 9 months. The Board of Torquay United FC has issued the following statement following the judgement: “The Club is very disappointed to lose the services of Austen, but acknowledges the FA’s judgement and ban imposed on our player.  All employees of football clubs should be aware that placing bets on football is strictly prohibited. We have reiterated this to everyone at Torquay United in light of this specific case and reminded them of their obligations to adhere to FA rules. “In Austen’s case, Torquay United feels that the football system needs to do better to educate both clubs and especially young players who are coming through the non-professional and semi-professional ranks. “We applaud Austen’s desire to deliver a seminar to our Under-18s academy team to educate young players around the issue of football betting.” The Club will not be making any further comment on this matter. The post Club Statement first appeared on Torquay United.
