Building from the back

Finally some transfer news!
http://www.thisissouthdevon.co.uk/new-g ... story.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

A goalkeeper, right back and centre back lined up to be added this week.

Any ideas? ( I am looking towards you CP Gull!)

Would guess the centre back is Saah. Sounds as if Oastler might be first choice right back next year as he is bringing a young kid in for that position (as his back-up?).
Still would need a second keeper so cannot be completly finished recruiting for the defense.

The Zeb story has been raised again - Likely he is on his way out by the sounds of it. Worrying - as a replacement of the same standard at this level is very hard to find.

"a young right-back from a Premier League club"
A loanee perhaps? Quite a few youngsters have been released this summer, I don't recognise many of them but Thomas Cruise is a defender (and I think right-back) released by Arsenal. Possibility?

Generally sounding good, hopefully we can build a good solid defence. Do you think he'll prefer Ellis or Robertson to play along side the new CB (Saah?). Nice to see Manse back in midfield and a REAL RIGHT BACK, what the hell are they?!

Losing Zebs would only worry me if he was due to be played up front. I see his role as a winger because of his dribbling abilities and can easily get himself in the box with the ball at his feet. He cannot finish the ball well enough to be our main striker, he ended up getting 2 goals more in the league than did in over double the games. We can definitely find a target man who would add more to the forward line than Zebs would.

EDIT: Interesting list there PhilGull, a few names that stand out who we could genuinely look at.

Thomas Cruise - Right back, never did much with Arsenal and often didn't even get in their under 18 team.
Javan Vidal - Right back, could be a great player for us, potentially a good L1 player in the future but went out on loan to Chesterfield this season and could end up in League 2 next season.
Ishmael Demontagnac - Left Winger (and the left footed holy grail type), could be slightly above us though, depends who else offers him a contract.
John Dunleavy - decent centre back with bags of potential. Doesn't quite have it yet so becoming our 4th CB might not be a bad shout.
Adam Street - Canadian Keeper who could be good. Only know him from Football Manager I will admit but should be around our level.

Some decent news,hopefully this will alay some fears about the club being stuck with a load of "left on the shelf trialists"

Goalkeeper, has Jake Cole signed for any club yet,if not then him(wishful thinking)if not Lance Cronin,centre back think most of us will be surprised if it is not Saah, as this is player he know's and seems to trust,would not be upset if it is him,as even the miserable Cambridge fans seem to rate him.

Right back,think this depends on whether it is a up and coming young player on loan,if so i can not see any premiership team loaning out a player just to warm the bench,if that is the case i would expect the player to be first choice right back,if it is a young player who has been released ,then it will intresting to see who gets the nod,Oastler or the new player.

Cruise is left sided so it's unlikely to be him, though anyone who saw him play against us for Carlisle will no doubt agree that at least that day he didn't look very good.

Cronin is going to........Bristol Rovers! there's a shock.

Cole would be my choice but from digging around the barnet forums Cole left there because he wanted more money/a bigger move. So i'm not sure if we'd fall into that category, they think he's off to Gillingham.

Vidal could be a good shout, so might Dunleavy, though don't know about his injury situation at the moment. Demontagnac has joined Notts County, as said previously Cruise is a left sided player and Adam Street has returned to Canada, possibly with Toronto FC, which is a shame as I think he would have been a decent signing.

I'd be happy in Dunleavy and Vidal.

Can't remember who our right winger was on the day (Zebroski?) but who ever it was, destroyed him that day.

EDIT: Cruise is who I was talking about

Tom Cruise played left back for Carlisle against us if that's any help?

Had a look at a couple of players that were with Martin Ling at Leyton Orient & one experienced centre back that sticks out is Anton Thelwell. Released a few seasons ago & was playing for Newport County & then Kettering. Whether he's retired or not now I'm not sure as it doesn't seem to have played recently. Definitely fit the cheap easy option we're renowned for.

I've heard from a few Newcastle fans that we are talking to this guy - http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Tavernier" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

James Tavernier, young defender who spent some time on loan at Gateshead. Could be the Premiership defender we're getting in on loan.

You heard it here first!

Sounds good, according to football manager he's quick and has got a good engine. I'd be happy with him.

What would everybody think to Simon Rayner coming back (as second choice)?
