Taiwo Atieno

Post by highweekgull »

Anyone know anything about this guy or seen him play?

Looks like he's played lots of games and scored a few goals but never stayed at a club beyond ones season.

Apparently he played one game for Stevenage this year....

And apparently he is playing in our pre-season friendlies http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14077162.stm

Okay thanks Brett. But to be honest I gave up on that thread (and many others) because there is so much pointless speculation and therefore you get pages of pages of stuff which most of us haven't got time to read.

I just want to know about the actual realities of who is here or coming soon - not hours and hours of trawling through pointless pontificating.

Not a dig at anyone, just my personal situation.

That's why I re-instated the Kuffour thread and left this one open. Individual players/targets are worth their own thread IMHO.

While we will all admit it is hard to judge a player on some video clips (as given enough time with a camera i could look like ronaldo!), he looks useful. However, i am part of the "why the hell has he been released so much then?" crowd, it doesn't bode well for any player signing on for clubs and being released without playing. That said though, i am unaware if Ling is one of those managers who seems to have the nack of getting the best out of players and if he can do it i think he could look like a shrewd piece of business. A risk taking him on, but one we may have to take as i guess he may be cheap on the old wage bill?

I agree Steve there is always a concern when a player has moved between so many clubs in such a short period of time. However, take Bayo for instance, he played for five clubs in two years before he joined us and lets be honest he was certainly affective. There are a number of reasons why players move on regularly.

We are going to have to see what he is like over a couple of games. I haven't seen him play before so have no opinion on him as of yet. Hopefully he will show something in the upcoming games and be able to settle in the area.

Completely agree 'Trucker'. Atieno will clearly be given a decent chance in pre-season and he will have that time to prove to the manager and the fans whether he is worthy to pull on the shirt. I just sincerely hope Ling doesn't sign him so we "have a striker on the books". If he isn't good enough move for someone else. Don't just sign him for his position.

Interested to read on BBC site that they did some speed tests at club, and he came out as the fastest player at the club. Zebroski was quick, not sure if as quick as macklin, however if he has that kind of pace, he could be a useful aquisition. I am looking forward to seeing what we got on wednesday at tiverton.

I'll do an informal one, assuming Nick doesn't beat me to it.

I'll be happy to post up a report on what they look like, the only thing with that with a pre season friendly against a side like Tiverton is it can sometimes very difficult to judge how good they where. I remember the first pre season game against Tiverton when the last man in charge took over and i thought we looked pretty good in that game. However we ended up losing 1-0 if memory serves me right, and some people on here absolutley slated the performance.

As forever has mentioned on the Bristol City thread - he is going to be offered terms.

Hopefully will be a decent signing and the guy definitely has talent!! Similar to the Howe situation though as they've both had slightly wild careers so far, hopefully Torquay will be a good influential place they will want to settle, thus to concentrate on the football!!!

Reading between the lines on the Ling statement on the Atieno situation on the OS, I think we will probably only offer him a 1 year deal. Ling's statement about other clubs I think is relevant as I don't think, after the last two games, we will be the only club interested. In a similar manner to Branston, I think if someone offers him a two year deal - he will take it!. Will / Should that be us? - I am not sure. However we all know that players on trial trying to get a contract can sometimes play out of their skin compared to their performances once pen is put to paper! - Let's hope it all works out for the best.
May not be the original, but I am the best 'TauntonGull' .... See I can do signatures too, coz I am a real boy!

Thanks for putting it here Rich,i had forgoten about this thread, you can only go on what you see,yes he is trying to earn a contract and our club has been down this road before, many times.

I did not go Tivvy, spoke to Matt and TufcBrett yesterday about his Tivvy performance, adding that to what i saw yesterday i would say he is worth a chance, after what Ling has correctly said about Taiwo needing to settle at a club and orve himself, hhopefully this will be one player who continue's to impress long after the ink is dry, that's if he sign's for us of course.
