Drop Rene
Some may see this as utter madness, but does Rene really fit into our 4-4-2 relegation fight. I had the unfortunate experience of going Rochdale 2 weeks ago. We where poor, our tactic being kick it high for Rene to chest it and then give the ball away and that was the 90 min plan. Having watched todays game, he in my opinion looks uninterested. He was slow and lazy. Jarvis offers more and looked interested. There is no doubt we are in a relegation scrap and I dont think he is showing the desire he should be showing, considering he is out of contract in 4 months. Benyon today was lively even though he didnt produce the fire power, the fact he chased a dead ball and got the ball smashed into his head neally knocking him out says it all.
The point being Rene is not Torquay United.
we need to bring back the passing confidence to the midfield and sign a forward player that will adapt to the 4-4-2 rather than the head of Rene.
ps. Has Accrington got a unique micro climate? ie *****ing freezing, where 2 miles down the road its 7 degrees warmer
All the locals look the same? And does the toilet awards of the year go to Accrington?

To be honest lucy i'm inclined to agree. He isn't making the runs he was, he isn't getting as involved as he was and he certainly isn't scoring as he was so you could say that dropping him might help. However, we've still been sh*t in the games he has been out through suspension so unless we get some loanees in and replace him i'm not sure anyone within the current squad would do any better. One thing i am positive about is that he won't be here next season, quite what his attitude is right now if he knows this i don't know but he isn't having the desired effect at the moment.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

He certainly seems to of looked disinterested recently and maybe dropping him for a game or two to show he isn't undroppable would be the thing to get him ticking again. Slackers are not what we need in this scrap.
I don't see that we have enough games left to be experimenting by dropping our only goal threat.AlexGulls wrote:He certainly seems to of looked disinterested recently and maybe dropping him for a game or two to show he isn't undroppable would be the thing to get him ticking again. As I've said before on this forum...
Teams around us would kill to have a player in their side that has scored as many as Rene has this season. To put him on the bench would be madness. I understand from the people at the game that he has looked devoid of interest but this is where the management needs to step in and fire him up a bit! Knill, show us you can motivate!

great idea.
are you nuts?
lets drop the player who has scored more goals than the entire squad has away from home!
we've scored 38 goals and rene has scored 14 of them - if he had better service that would be 20 by now.
no wonder posters are saying he looks disinterested!

I agree but it will never happen unless we loan in someone in a similar built player to rene, i think benyon and jarvis would work well if we had wingers on the pitch, they would get benyon and jarvis chances and both of them are good finishers, although i dont see rene being dropped unless we sign a similar type of player
The point being made is that he was a goal machine, he ain't now! And if he isn't interested then yes, but we need a loanee in to take his place

I suspect, if anything, Howe is frustrated, rather than lacking interest. The bloke has been trying to do it all on his own all season and with the appalling service he receives, I don't blame him if he seems to be less onfident than he was. To suggest Benyon would the answer with decent service is nonsense. If we had decent service, Rene would not be struggling.

We'd be foolish to drop Rene, he's the only player capable of scoring for us at the moment and there have been numerous threads over the past couple of months about our lack of goal threat. Now we're saying lets drop our ONLY threat?????
I think we should consider dropping Mansell because when he was suspended earlier in the season, the midfield looked much better and seemed more measured in what it was doing. I know there will be plenty on here who will shoot me for this but we need goals and dropping Rene is like hoisting up the white flag.

I think Hector has hit the nail on the head. Sheer frustration for Rene. This is down to bad management.
Lets face it if Rene had the right service he would be a 20 to 25 goal player like Pope at Port Vale.
You cannot score on your own. Football is a team game and our management has been found wanting big time.
Time for a rethink on formation and style. Up to Christmas we had only lost about 8 games. To lose 7 on the bounce shows something is seriously wrong at Plainmmoor. You do not become a bad team overnight.
Football is all about man management. Rene needs motivation. Over to you Mr. Knill.

People normally say 'post of the month' about some essay; but this is a top comment.
