Well, I guess it was coming and I think it was the right decision by the board.

Now on the O/S http://www.torquayunited.com/news/artic ... 98927.aspx

Perhaps the reason Knill wasn't being drawn on his Torquay future?

I expect that his future is seriously in doubt and I expect another announcement to that effect shortly if I was a betting man!

I would say Knill is a shoo-in for the job and that it will be announced as soon as contract is sorted - much more effective to work with the man you know and save the hassle of recruiting.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if the fans thoughts on this helped the decision....

I applaud the board applaud the board for taking this action, certainly it was the right decision for me. Given the amount of people who didn't want to see him back it will keep the fans onside. This however can only be the start. It would be no good appointing Knill (if it is him) if he isn't given the tools to build a decent squad. Let's hope the recent changes on the board will set us up to be much better prepared for the season ahead. UTG.

Check Brent Pilnick on twitter:

BREAKING: From Martin Ling: "After all the assurances during my illness and full recovery that I would be returning as manager of Torquay..

"I was amazed to receive a phone call from Thea Bristow at 1930 on Sunday night to say that my contract with the club was being terminated."

Best decision the board could make. It is a shame because I liked Lingy as a man, but wasn't fussed by him as a manager. No doubt Knill will be installed as the new Manager now and a return to attacking football can be made. With Andrew Candy and Tim Herbert now on the forum, I'm sure it will have reached the board that at least half of the fanbase did not want Ling back.

Onwards and upwards with whoever the new man will be. Let's face it, it's going to be Knill and Brass.

On another note, what do we think this will spell for Taylor. He surely cannot stay as assistant, do we think he will be offered a position as a coach?

Uh-Oh...

Ouch, sounds like our joke board has given into peer pressure from the crowd on Saturday, although I think it's the right decision. Should have done it 3 months ago, this'll get messy.

The board should be applauded for taking swift and decisive action. Hopefully Knill will be offered, and accept, the vacant manager's post.

I think we should also take time to wish Martin Ling the best of luck in the future and that he can overcome his demons, whatever they may be. We should also be thankful for his work in the transfer market bringing us some very good players and profit on Bobby.

Onwards and upwards, looking forward to next season already and hopefully an attack minded Alan Knill side similar to his succesful Bury team.
