I and a couple other mentioned Kieffer Moore as a decent local young striker who we wanted the club to look at. Well he played for Yeovil yesterday scored and has now been signed up by them for an undisclosed fee. Will be interesting to see how he progresses there but can see him going on to bigger and better things. Always good to see a local lad do well specially and old team mate.

Agreed, it is good see local young talent making it in football. And congratulations to this young lad for being signed up by Yoevil.

However before to many people start saying TUFC have missed a trick or critize our club to much you have to understand how it works. TUFC only have so much money, and so many squad spaces to fill, the diffence between us and Yoevil is simple, we invest a small fortune in youth development and succsessfully, with Yoeman, Tompson, Sullivan etc in our first team sqaud some in the catagory as a player for the future.

Yeovil invest excatly £0 in youth development, as said nothing to do with EPPP it was do with the fact they unlike us they developed not one single player from their youth in all the time it ran, so took the decision to to re-invest that money in having a larger first team squad.

That very much is the nail on the head. We have the players for the future developed by our own youth set up, our club (AK) is out there looking to fill squad spaces with ready made experienced pro's capble of doing a job in League 2 from the off, and probaly a large part of the reason why our club are not looking to sign the Kieffer Moore's of this world, and would be very surpised to see him as a first team starter at Yeovil, in fact they are more likely to loan him out.

We have in the last week signed up a local lad on an apprenticeship. Dan Lavercombe is a goalkeeper who lives in Torquay, he was on the books at Exeter City but was released. He had both Cheltenham and Plymouth offering him terms but he has signed up for us.

This lad wasn't our first choice it was very much a panic station signing as the original goalkeeper that was offered a scholarship from Ireland failed to report for pre season training.

It won't be long before we maybe get to see the talents of Moore when the Yeovil friendly occurs.

Times have changed since the days of Western League football and TUFC Reserves participation in it. The changes have not been all for the good. Local "amatuer" talent always had the opportunity in Western League days of show casing their potential for TUFC Reserves and TUFC "A". The standard of the Western League of the late '60s/early '70s was far away and above the standard of todays watered down non league pyramid equivalent.

Back in that era, teams from local District Leagues, for example The Exeter & District League (Premier Division) were elected into the Western League. At that time, only one Division of the Western League existed (seasons 60-61 to 75-76 inclusive) and above that was Southern League Division One, Southern League Premier and above that election to Division IV of the football League.

In today's money, local District League Premier Divisions back then, were equivalent to today's Southern League Division One (Step 4). Oh how the level and standard of non league football has dropped.

One of my all time favourite players from that era of Western League TUFC Reserves football was "amatuer" Fred Binney  , who at that time was a teenage Dockyard apprentice. With regard to Fred, the rest, as they say, is history. Our Stefano might well have played in the same team. ;-)

Good luck to Kieffer Moore.

Thats not correct, the Irish lad was talked about but as far as I am aware was never coming to the club and this was known going back at least 8 weeks ago. So would hardly call it panic stations.

Really I'm sure Geoff harrop would have got it right because that's who told me. The Irish lad was offered a scholarship he played in a couple of games at the end of the season which I watched one being the game against Exeter at plainmoor and he was meant to report for training but failed to show. I think this is a bit more than being talked about. The panic comes into it when you realise you have only got one goalie that is possibly going to be on the bench for the first team as pokey is injured. So Geoff said we had to find a keeper quick.

Just the once Trojan although Fred was a professional by then. Somewhere around November 1969 a 3-0 win over Bath City at Plainmoor. I was substitute (in the days of only one sub) and as we were three up (Fred had scored 2) Don Mills risked putting me on with a couple of minutes to go. I only touched the ball once when I took a throw in. I didn't throw it to Fred so there ended our association! ;-)

How accurate is this? I'm in his form at school (believe it or not) and I thought he had signed for Cheltenham?
