'Then' and 'Now' - a positive view of things
'Then' and 'Now' - a positive view of things
Just thought I would do a quick thread on where we sit compared to this time last year.
To do this I have listed below our six signings thus far and then compared to them (in my opinion) to the squad member from the start of last year (who they have replaced):
Saah NOW Pearce
Morris NOW Harding
Stevens NOW Chapell
Macklin NOW Cameron
Oastler NOW Tonge
Jarvis NOW Benyon
Howe NOW (To be confirmed)
Now I know Howe's replacement has yet to be found and we have lost other players than listed - but for me so far we have six better replacements out of the six signings made. The other players who departed were no stronger and played a small part in actual appearances than the ones listed above.
This has to provide more hope for the season ahead, does it not?

Certainly does, and we have a progressive manager who wants to get the best out of the players too.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

Hard to argue with that and throw in a manager and coach looking to play attacking football and it's definitely encouraging.
Really looking forward to this season.

When you look at that list it certainly does bode well for the coming season... I was never a big fan of Morris or Jarvis and to have them replaced with the likes of Harding and Benyon can only be good for the future of our club.
Just need to get Howe's replace in sooner rather than later.... and it'll be a decent set-up at Plainmoor.... on paper at least.... let's hope the 'new' team gel quickly and give us the fast-flowing attacking football that we were so sadly lacking last season...
Come on you Whites!!!

Can't help but wonder how people would feel if we hadn't signed Harding, but did sign Cooper?
I'd be even more chuffed than I am already!

To the OP, agreed, when you put it like that, it does seem like we've taken a step forward from last year.

Concur entirely, an excellent whimsy. Made all the funnier by invoking memories of the 'Rene Cowe' profile picture he used on Twitter for a while. For those who missed it, it was Rene's ugly mug superimposed on to the body of a Friesian.

I'm not expecting miracles this year I would be happy with a nice mid table finish this year.
It's not Knills team as of yet, as we are still carrying a few players that I am not sure are in Knills plans. Such as Lathrope, Craig and Nicholson etc.
