Levi Ives?
Levi Ives?
What is happening with him?
Not listed as one of our current squad. Does anyone know if we still have a contact offer on the table for him or has he rejected it and moved on?
We must be due some sort of compo regardless if he has decided to depart?

I would be very pleased if he doesnt come back. We dont want any Billy Big Boots attitude at the club and quite frankly he is at best bang average, an opinion I stated early on and was roundly castigated for. I await his unveiling at a Premier League ground soon.

Must admit I didn't think he was as good as some were making out actually. But for his age he had something, but Im not that bothered if he returns or not.Mattpuma wrote:I would be very pleased if he doesnt come back. Wouldn't lose any sleep if he doesn't sign. He needs to wake up and appreciate his current employees, he is unproven. I/we only want players committed to Torquay.

Agree with the sentiment in the above posts, Levi is a good young player with some potential, but he's nothing better than that, remember seeing him at Eastleigh away get absolutely ripped a new one in that match, and there were other games like it.
I'd like to see him stay and develop with us, there could be a player in there. Was irritating to hear Dave Thomas banging in the podcast about how Levi must play, NO, Dave, he must earn the right to play, same with Dan Lavercombe, of course young players need games to develop, but not to the detriment of the first team.
If they're in the team and playing well, they should have ownership of the shirt, if not, find them a good competitive level to, go out on loan to, not send for a jolly to Bideford or Willand, no disrespect intended.

With Paul Cox's positive, yet tough, attitude towards player development, Levi could still be useful.

A good manager would select his side to protect against a young players inexperience, Hargreaves tactics left Ives open as he lacks the experience and strength at the moment but when that comes I'm sure he'll play at a higher level. What I'm saying is the wide player should track back but in Hargreaves side the gap between the fullbacks and the wide midfield players was to big.forevertufc wrote:Agree with the sentiment in the above posts, Levi is a good young player with some potential, but he's nothing better than that, remember seeing him at Eastleigh away get absolutely ripped a new one in that match, and there were other games like it.

Dan Lavercombe could be good enough to start the season and the pre-season might show this if he maintains the form he showed at the end of the season. This will also depend on what experience Cox brings in the centre half position as we have very little experience at the moment.
Interesting, you've posted time and time again the long held theory, that if a young player is good enough, he's old enough. You now tell us, a good manager would select his side to protect against a young players inexperience, you're screwing your own argument in the case of Ives and Lavercombe here.arcadia wrote:A good manager would select his side to protect against a young players inexperience, Hargreaves tactics left Ives open as he lacks the experience and strength at the moment but when that comes I'm sure he'll play at a higher level. Put simply because, if Paul Cox has to select the side to protect against the inexperience of Ives and Lavercombe, then neither of these two young players are good enough to be in the starting eleven, therefore not old enough either.
Get where you're coming from regards a wide player tracking back, however, if a the wide player is 'constantly' having to track back to baby sit his full back, what's the wide player not doing, that he should be ? a good manager like your self should easily be able answer that.
