New Signing from Port Vale????

Post by popeygull »

I would say Colin Daniel played under Paul Cox at Mansfield Town and Eastwood Town where he was promoted with Cox He can play left-sided midfielder, he can also play as a winger, full-back, wing-back, or forward. That would explain why Paul Cox has come out and said that he expects some people to go permanently, it would question why we would need Liam Prynn or Odofin. We can the use the money from letting them go to sing another player. Daniel could cover for wingers if we play them, full backs if we play them (because of 3-4-1-2 formation Cox seems to be playing), Hurst and Butler when injured (because of wing-back) and any forward injured. He is strong and someone that would perfect to cover for Fenwick or Young if he gets a stupid red card like last season :red: If Cox was able to pull this signing off then I would have to say to him :-D

I think Colin Daniel would a great signing. He certainly has the experience we are lacking in the squad. But I would be surprised if it was him tbh I think it will most likely be one of their younger players. Having looked at their squad it could be one of the following players:

Achille Campion (Striker)

Ryan Lloyd (Midfielder)

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_Lloyd

Nathan Smith (Defender)

Aziz Deen-Conteh (Defender)

Unless we can get big money for them there is no point letting Prynn or Odofin go as they are some of the lowest earners in the squad, probably earn less combined than someone like Daniel would want.

He only signed a new two-year contract last month so I highly doubt a permanent deal is on the cards

I see it is Nathan Smith, would have liked Colin Daniel however Smith will be a darn sight better than Jide 'Liability' Mudoaka. Coming from a league one should mean he is of reasonable quality.

ahhh, so there are two Nathan Smiths, the other is a 28 year old at Yeovil who I looked at the other day and thought was way out of our league!

Nathan Smith played well against the cornish on tuesday night. Looked to read the game well and has got pace which complemented Ex and Gus at the back.

Could do with a hair cut however

If it is Colin Daniel that you are getting from Port Vale, you are getting a pretty decent player.
He likes to operate down the left hand side, and always attacks the full back.
Coxy didn't play Daniel as much as some people would have hoped, but we also had Louis Briscoe at the club, who Cox sometimes employed down the left hand side, so he could cut in, and unleash those thunderbolt shots with his right boot, and we had Lindon Meikle.
At 27 Daniel is still relatively young, so a move along way from home (He's another Nottinghamshire lad) might not bother him too much.
He was very ambitious, and moved up a division last season when he joined PV, this is something that came as a bit of a shock to most Stags fans, as he didn't do anything outstanding in League 2 for us, but then, people see football in different ways, and maybe a PV scout spotted something we didn't?

If he did end up with you, not only would you have a decent player, ... Or a very good player for conference level, you'd probably also make him an instant cult hero, for scoring the goal that relegated Bristol Rovers ;-)
