Just wondered if people feel on reflection whether it was the right decision? At the time I was critical of playing style and some tactical decisions. Perhaps you learn from these mistakes, could he have turned it around?

I was excited when Hargreaves was appointed - I was looking forward to us having a hungry young manager who would do well for us and go on to forge a career in League One, the Championship and beyond. Sadly, as it turns out that didn't happen. I'm happy to agree that this is in part down to Greavsie himself but I think a big part of the problem was the club itself and the chaos that was going on in and around the boardroom.
As it turns out I think letting him go was the right decision, were it not for the finances. Given the financial situation I think perhaps bringing in a more experienced DoF (no disresepct to Deano who did a lot of work to save the club but he had little experience for the job) ho could have helped Greavsie more. Putting all three backroom staff on leave while still paying them was a crazy decision given our financial plight.

would have been a good manager given time. He still will be but it's all about circumstance isn't it?
He'll be back in management soon, maybe at Yeovil and he'll do okay

Hindsight is a wonderful thing of course, but if Hargreaves and Hodges had stayed, we surely couldn't have been in as bad a situation as we are now.

in terms of league position and financially too. The decison to put them on gardening leave has been a disaster

I think he would have come good. We can all see his hands were not just tied, but were also behind his back or possibly severed altogether. Metaphorically speaking.
I think he would have come good as a manager. It wouldn't have been pretty for a season or two but then, we're hardly pretty now either are we? I can only think that the incoming board felt his often negative attitude would have been difficult to handle. Cox & Nicholson were/are probably easier to work with.
He was here at the wrong time - for us and for him - but I'm sure he'll go on and succeed somewhere else.

The trouble with Hargreaves was he thought he was a better player than anyone in his squad.
Some of his statements "no players work as hard as in used to..."
Nico will do fine. But we shouldn't forget that he has little money, and so his man management skills and patience with his team will be critical.

I think that "negative attitude" was possibly just more blunt than others could stomach. He knew he'd been sold a pup and wasn't the type to gloss over something.

The trouble with Nico is that he thinks he still "has it" as a player too....

In fairness to the man, we aren't a proper football club, so it's tough to blame a proper football man when he's not really equipped for the job.
Matt.

We were when Hargreaves was first appointed. His poor managerial skills are one of the factors that attributed to our current downward spiral.

hargreaves was promised much from the board at the time and they never came up with what was promised, he was constantly coming up agaisnt a brick wall.
he has had a lucky escape i reckon, he will go on to manage again with far better results.
