Exeter game stopped as fans evacuated

Exeter stand seen with smoke coming out.. fans evacuated onto pitch as game is stopped. an unusual way to get it rebuilt !

Never seen so much heat generated in that Exeter stand.. I've heard of players being sent off, but, for spectators to be sent on, that's most unusual..!!

Glad it was nothing serious, though that stand certainly needs to be rebuilt. There was a more serious fire in the original Plainmoor stand at the Babbacombe end, but it still took some years before the whole stand was rebuilt, replaced by Bristow's Bench.

I've been working as Response at Reading FC and the smoke bombs are a major cause of concern to the authorities right now. The latest ones are no bigger than a 10p piece so we've been told to be extra thorough when doing searches on fans coming into the Madejski. We confiscated loads off Palace fans before the cup game last Friday night.
