Torquay v Southport Saturday 29th October 3pm
Posted: 27 Oct 2016, 22:00
Torquay go in to the game in 18th place in the (non) league table, four places above Southport in 22nd place, having (harshly it seems) lost 3-0 away to Eastleigh on Tuesday.
Southport have won just 2 of their last 10 national league games and only 3 all season, with their last win coming on Tuesday with a 2-0 win at home to York.
I believe this will be the 5th meeting between the two clubs at non league level, with the four previous games yielding two wins and a draw for Torquay.
19/03/16 Torquay United - Southport 1 : 0
10/10/15 Southport - Torquay United 0 : 1
28/03/15 Southport - Torquay United 2 : 1
16/08/14 Torquay United - Southport 0 : 0
The 2 clubs have also met 28 times in division 4 between 1958 and 1978 and once in the FA trophy (thanks Lucy)
Torquay lined up as follows against Eastleigh on Tuesday:
Moore, Gallifuoco, Rowe-Turner, McGinty, Nicholson, Ward (Chaney 67), Richards (Chamberlain 90), Young, Reid, Blissett, Williams
Subs not used: Robba, Duke, Palfrey
Unavailable against Eastleigh: Sparkes, Verma, Lathrope (all injured), Gerring (still suspended), Hancox (on loan at Bridgewater)
Sparkes may be available for Saturday's game, but I'm guessing the others are unlikely to make it, and I'm not aware of any additional injuries from Tuesday's game.
Southport lined up as follows, with Jamie Allen scoring both goals (in the second half...) in their 2-0 win against York.
Norman, Higgins, Howe, Thompson, Ashton, Lussey (Hynes 46), Weeks, Nolan, Ferguson (Caton 68), Allen, A Jones.
Subs not used: Grimes, Gray, Cofie
I will predict (again) a 2-1 win with Reid and GG scoring and hoping for a better attendance following pay day for many, so get to Plainmoor if you can, you know you want to, sit in Bristow’s Bench and enjoy the view. (Current weather forecast is a mild, but overcast 14 degrees)
